hey im new to the whole body mod thing but wanting to get in to it.
just wondering does any one know about puting electronics into/under the skin.
i was thinking of having midi trigers implanted into my thigh.
but maby start small with a simple blinking led.

what are the dangers of runing small voltages throught the body under the skin.

I haven't heard of electronics but I have heard of magnetic implants and they do not last. Also electronics could lead to electric shock causing death.

I think that's an awesome idea, but how would you power them?

I think it is an awesome somewhat futuristic idea but I also think that right now without lots and lots of money it would not be possible. Just do a search on BMEZINE about magnetic implants, Your body eats away at the casing over a certain amount of time and they have to be removed wich usually the magnets have been completely corroded and come out in small pieces. I think if this was possible you would have to start with worrying less about power supply and voltage and worry more about finding a casing for the device that does not break down and corrode away under human tissue.

As far as power supply goes, you could almost have like a transdermal implant that doubles as a jack, like on your cell phone....this shit totally would'nt work any way it just does'nt sound possible once you start thinking of everything that can go wrong.

I totally agree with Steazy. Power supply is the least of your problems. A simple button cell lithium battery like the ones in watches can run for years at a time. Your primary concern would be water proofing the devices and/or encasing it with something that is both inert and the body would not reject. I have several Teflon beads implanted under my skin for close to a decade now with no problems what so ever. So I know Teflon is a good substance to use. But I'm lost as to how to get something like that made. I've had ideas like this years ago. I had wanted some sort of sensor device implanted in me for these trick door locks or car alarms. That way I don't have to carry a remote in my pocket. The car would automatically arm or disarm merely by my presence. Plus only I would be able to open my doors or start my car and I wouldn't worry about ever losing my remote. The technology is there because I already have an alarm that does that. Mercedez and Lexus use the same deal with their key fob thingee. I just want to take it to the next step and have those devices implanted in me instead of carrying them around. Matrix

I know of a prof at MIT that implanted some RFID tags so that his office building greets him and opens the door and stuff. so you can do the auto lock using RFID chips. Powering is not a big deal, you could easily use something like Seiko's Kinetic motion (weight on a generator) basically power by your movement or solar. You'd also have to worry about wiring... thats the big deal :)

Power supply could be like that of a artifical heart it is possable but like the magnetic implants would have a short life span.

I have done research on this, and it can be done easily, power is not a prob, think of pacemakers, and there are loads of interesting things available, just need a good person to get the stuff in

The main problem would be finding people to make it.
There is enough medical research in this field to safely make loads of fun stuff to put in the body.

Silicon/teflon encasement, motion powered.

Geting it down to size probably isnt a problem either, cos there is watches powered by motion, and medical science has come far...

I was thinking about tons of stuff that I want to have implanted...
Like a clock giving a small alarm at hour, with mute function.

Or a compass fused onto some nerves so I can feel the needle.

Or light. that would have been wicked!
