Seriously?!?  I would have thought that they'd be more well know, seeing all the hits that they released.  They did 'i could care less' first, and they played that a lot on tv.  You guys should definitely go to http://www.devildriver.com - www.devildriver.com and listen to some of their shit.  You're really missing out!

Impossible to compare really. Disturbed is a mainstream hard rock act and DevilDriver is an underground thrash metal act(despite being signed to a major record label, Roadrunner Records).

However me being really fucking die hard with metal in all of it's various genres I'd go with DevilDriver due to having more artistic credibility(not selling their songs to wrestling organizations for wrestler's entrance music).

It's all a matter of opinion really, I just happen to have very strong opinions, lol.

Yeah, dez is the shit.  I met him at sounds of the underground and got a t-shirt signed by the band.  He even signed my bf's old coal chamber shirt, which was dez's previous band.  Yeah, they definitely are on different musical planes, but nonetheless, we're having this argument anyway.

I think i might have heard one or two Devildriver tracks, but i don't remember them. That means that they haven't impressed me much.

On the other hand, i like Disturbed.

So it'll have to be Disturbed for me.

Well, this is Devildriver...and if you like metal, particularly the harder shit, you WON'T be disappointed.  At least I don't think you will.

http://www.devildriver.com - http://www.devildriver.com  <----Click on media and audio to listen, or watch the videos, which also kick ass.

Seriously, take the time to check them out.  You don't know what you're missing!  This is the same singer as Coal Chamber, if you know who that is.  DevilDriver's most well-known video was 'I Could Care Less.'  They haven't played their music too much on mtv, but I have fuse, and they played it on there.  And their shows are GREAT!  I saw them at Sounds of the Underground in NJ and I was absolutely thrilled to death.

But like I said, check them out.  My bf is pretty picky about his metal and he loves these guys, and they certainly don't suck, so you should at least check them out!  In the meantime, I'm waiting for my new devildriver hoodie to come in the god damn mail!

Devildriver. WAY better than Disturbed, as far as a live concert goes, their lyrics aren't as contrite and pretentious (Even though I like Disturbed) and they're just better, just like coal Chamber was better than Disturbed. metalbabe, I have a feeling you'd love DD.. But.. Yeah. Devildriver > Disturbed. Devildriver was really good at Ozzfest back in 04... Dez is like a demon.

But Fear Factory owns them all.

....
Speaking of demons, I reccomend seeing Strapping Young Lad live. Devin Townsend is a fucking madman, he looks like satan himself at times and the metal is fucking pure.

hmmmmm Brutal Death metal eh? If you like this stuff i can reccomend a few bands to you guys.

It's not exactly my daily cup of tea, but i enjoy some bands who play this genre - but it's not something i listen to much at home. It's gig music to me. One to create havoc in the moshpits.

Check out:
http://www.beheaded.net/ -
Beheaded
http://www.arachnid-web.net/ - Arachnid
http://www.abysmaltorment.net/ - Abysmal Torment

These 3 bands are all local bands which kick fuckin ass. Brutal Death, verging on Brutal Death Grind.

Hell yeah, metalbabe.  I have the video for loco on my computer somewhere, along with every other coal chamber video I could get my hands on.  Sounds of the Underground was Lamb of God, Clutch, Poison the Well, From Autumn to Ashes, Unearth, Norma Jean, Every Time I Die, Chimaira, Throwdown, Strapping Young Lad, High on Fire, Madball, Terror, A Life Once Lost, All That Remains, DevilDriver, Full Blown Chaos, The Red Chord, FBTMOF, and GWAR.  I was looking up DevilDriver concerts and we ordered tickets and later on, I saw the setlist, and I swear, lights shone down from the heavens, lol...well, if there was a heaven, lights would have shone down.  Devin Townsend is fucking INSANE onstage, and Gwar kicks ass, too.  But Devildriver was by far my favorite, of course.  The coolest thing was that all the bands were walking around the parking lot where the concert was going on when they weren't onstage, so you could just walk up and talk to them.  There's going to be a SOTU 2006, so I definitely suggest going when it comes around.

http://www.soundsoftheundergroundtour.com - http://www.soundsoftheundergroundtour.com

Everybody on here should go to their local SOTU show and we should all share pics, lol.

Yes, Devin is an insane, but funny man.

Let's see here.. If you liked Coal Chamber, you'll like DD. Same music, just.. A tad different, if you catch my meaning.

As for that setlist...

Lamb of God- Not my favorite, not bad, seen them live, they sound good
Clutch- Heard good things
Poison The Well- Heard some fo their older stuff, not bad
FATA- I love the hell out of them
Norma Jean- Heard they were really screamo, never listened, personally.
Everytime I Die- Horrid live, at Ozzfest 04. Boo'd off stage.
Chimaira- fucking excellent any way you put them
Throwdown- Not bad live
SYL- *drool*
High on Fire- ?
Madball- Good stuff
Terror- Heard good things
A life Once Lost- ditto
All That Remains- Excellent shit
Devildriver- ...duh
FBC- ?
The Red Chord- ?
FBTMOF- ?
Gwar- ...No.

Lol, I love Gwar.  Even if you think the music sucks, the show is still excellent.  Nothing better than a band who cuts off george bush's head onstage and rips the skin off our nazi-pope's face.  Not to mention the amazingly gratuitous blood spray.  You can always tell when they're coming on because the cameras get little plastic bags.  I still don't know who some of the people are, cuz I had to leave early.  The sun was so harsh that after a few hours and a round of sun poisoning, I was puking every 3 minutes, literally.  Yeah, norma jean is really screamo...don't think they meant to be, but they ended up sounding that way anyhow.

Lol, I love that....and let it be known that moshing and 'hxc dancing' aren't even close to the same thing.

by the way, xburyxmex, my bf loved your lotr gif thingy. lol

"Hold Back The Day" is better than anything Disturbed ever has or ever will do, plus you have to bow down to it's Sabbath-inspired music video. Their self-titled debut was alright but it was way more Coal Chamber influenced, and I could never stomach nu metal. "The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand" is one of the better metal releases this year, totally devoid of any nu metal influence or Coal Chamber comparisons. Pure thrash metal, and that is always a good thing in my eyes.

I'm going to elect to drop out of this thread. I talk way too fucking much as it is, and if you're talking music, of any kind, especially metal, I'll never shut the fuck up.

Welp, I can't say that I've ever been impressed by anything Disturbed has ever done, though I liked the animal noises in "The Sickness".

OOHH-WAH-AH-AH-AH! UGH! UGH!

But I CAN say that I was floored after listening to DevilDriver, especially keeping in mind that I hated Coal Chamber.

I'd rather listen to Manowar or if I'm going to go harder & faster (nothing is louder than Manowar) then maybe I'll put in some Darkest Hour or Shadows Fall (I saw them on their first tour at... heh, the Essex Town Hall in Vermont. I liked their original singer a lot better).

I'll have to agree that Opeth is an amazing group.

If you're going to stick to that new-metal shit though, Static-X is always a good, progressive choice. Not Disturbed.

But seriously, DevilDriver impressed me. I like to put it on in the morning before work.

MANOWAR

Best metal band ever? Quite possibly...

Let's examine the evidence--->

1) Manowar has been together and selling out shows, continuously, since the seventies.

2) They got Orson Welles to narrate a track on their DEBUT album in '80

3) These lyrics --> "MAY YOUR SWORD STAY WET / LIKE A YOUNG GIRL / IN HER PRIME"

4) The founding member started out as a Black Sabbath roadie, and they played some of their first shows opening for the Dio-era Sabs.

But last and finally...

5) They broke the Guinness Book's record for loudest concert ever... TWICE (Residents from miles away could hear it plainly)

Fact is, it doesn't matter if it's tight leather, bare chests and big hair, or black eye-makeup, fishnets and bondage spikes.

Metal is gay. Gay like Rob Halford and Freddie Mercury.

But I like it anyway.

So if Manowar is gay, sign me up for buttsex 'cuz I'll crank up Manowar over Disturbed anyday.

Yeah, I know I really went off here, but I love Manowar, even if it is in that good, boy-humping kind of way.

"WE BELIEVE / IN THE POWER AND THE MIGHT / AND THE GODS / WHO MADE METAL / ARE WITH US TONIGHT!"

all kinda of assholes can get in the guinness book of records for doing some dumb shit.

black sabbath have been going on for ages. many other bands have been going on for ages. black sabbath didnt need to start out as black sabbath roadies to get where they are today. black sabbath HAD DIO! and now Ozzy's back!

Faeries wear boots, Warpigs, Black Sabbath..... don't rell me you prefer gayowar's shit to such classic tracks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried, believe me, to understand the whole manowar thing. I listened to what are reckoned to be THE manowar tracks.. .the best ones that is. while reading the lyrics. either the lyrics sucked which was the majority of the time..... or else the vox were ok-ish but myusic sucked, or music was ok and vocals sucked big time.

Rob Halford, sure - gaylord of metal. but that's cos he IS gay. Manowar are the other knid of gay.... the pathetic wanker chauvinistic pig kind of gay.

Such vicious animosity towards a band... you remember of course that they just play music right? With their tongues in their cheeks on the corniest tracks, I'm sure. You really don't have to like it...

But just for the record I won't put Manowar over Black Sabbath, the band who could be considered singlehandedly responsible for creating the genre.

I mean look at what happened back in '67 when Sabbath tried playing in California to a bunch of hippies who were just sitting on their asses. Ozzy told them to "get off your fucking asses, to fucking rock." And then Bill Ward decided to chuck his entire drum set into the audience.

As he told an interviewer in Ozzy's "Don't Blame Me", "We got a reaction allright."

Now that's metal, even if Ozzy has become something of a sad old geezer in modern times. (I say Dio should be back in Sabbath!)

My final say in this thread....

Neither Black Sabbath nor Manowar canbe credited for "starting" the genre of heavy metal. Heavy metal music finds it's roots in the British Blues of the 1960's, and that's a widely known and accepted fact to anybody with even the slightest depth of knowledge on the genre.

Manowar is power metal, a genre I really hold a high disdain for due to the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, stage theatrics, and silly offstage antics. Typically power metal vocalists sound like women and that's just not fucking metal to me. They all have voices 5 octaves above the feminine range, like their balls are in a vice.....which in retrospect they actually are with those super tight lame assed leather pants.

Manowar being in Guiness proves absolutely nothing other than the incredibly loud range their vocalist has, even though he still sounds like a bitch. I'd be willing to bet that Guiness never heard of, say Strapping Young Lad, as I'd stake my life that Strapping Young Lad's concerts blow Manowar's out of the fucking water.

Don't believe me? Go find a live recording of "Oh My Fucking God" by SYL and tell me I lied.

Now I opt out of this thread, like I meant to do a few pages back. BTW, Devildriver is in the lead and I like it that way.

For the record, Black Sabbath WAS the british blues of the 60s, they got together in like '64 and originally called themselves Earth, which Ozzy described as a "blues rock band" It wasn't until a few years later that they saw the Boris Karloff movie "Black Sabbath" and wrote the song "Black Sabbath" which was so succesful they changed the name.

For the record I know all about Earth and they definately were 60's blues, however you seem to have a very limited knowledge on the subject. Obviously proven when you openly professed love for Manowar. I'm not going to get into a debate with you on this because doing so is futile. All I'm going to say is that the seeds of heavy metal music were planted in the early 60's British Blues scene, BEFORE earth. Heavy metal's roots lie directly at the feet of artists such as Alexis Korner, Cyril Davies, Davey Graham and John Mayall, among many others.

You seem to me to be a mindless person who claims to love heavy metal but really only knows of the mainstream artists, something most people who credit Ozzy and Sabbath for metal are guilty of.

I love Sabbath, always have and always will but Ozzy is as overrated as the day is long. And he's been a complete fucking hack for the past 10 years.

I now opt out of this debate, your rebuttal shall be read but not answered. I do not have the time to teach class, namely Metal History 101.
