I lived in Tahiti from 1981 up to 1989, my parents and brother still live there, and this guy is so openly prejudicial, racist and has so little knowledge about the tattoo revival that's occuring right now in french polynesia that it hurts. You can quite legitimately call him a son of bitch.

Don't let him get away with it? What are we meant to do, tell him his views are wrong and he's a bit of a twunt? Let's look at online journalism shall we? People such as this guy are paid money by the sites for their stories, probably not much but the supplement it with job in other media too, I presume. Now these websites aren't stupid, they don't just give away money to anybody that writes an article, they give money to people who can draw people to the site with their articles and they especially like it when new people visit for a read. After all, the adverts you see when you visit are what generates the site it's money, the more page views, the better the site looks and the more money it makes. Everytime you get someone to have a read and leave a comment the better he looks and the more likely he is to run his mouth off again. Besides, there are plenty of these articles every week, you can't stop it and I would love to hear your suggestion on how we can 'make him pay'. I honestly don't understand people getting so upset by guys like this, every community/race/religion/person gets stick from time to time, leave him to his misguided opinions and move on with your life. PS. This is what I commented: After looking at most of the comments already submitted, I can only come to the conclusion that you, as well as many of your readers, have such warped and stunted opinions that you must all have been reared by close-minded nuns. What better way to showcase a beautiful piece of art than to wear it on your body?? Or to accentuate your own best features with piercings? I see modification (yes, modification, not mutilation!) as a wonderful way to express yourself, and to share beautiful art with others. Those who do not like body modification are free to their own opinion to a certain point, but when you belittle people and their right to expression to the point of labelling them as mutilated, your opinion holds no ground with me. ------------- Glimmi says: But yeah theres that old saying you can't judge a book by it's cover, cause it could have like 60 piercings in it's cock......Well that's not how the saying actually goes but you get my point. |

Freedom of speech is one thing. Calling tahitians idiots is another one, and this guy is obviously as much a racist as he's a judgmental idiot. Futhermore, I hate it when people talk about things they don't have the slightest idea about. What he says about tahitian people is pure racism. Would I be a polynesian in the US I'd sue him and his newspaper for that.

Yeah this guy is a jack ass but hey you can't take him seriously for the same reason everyone said we are never going to get rid of people who prejudge and personally i think that this is just one guy who had the power of letting people see his opinion go to his head. Were his comments and views appreciated here? Of course not. Was he an idiot? Yes. Is he going to read the feedback he gets? 100% NO. Basically there is nothing we can do. I for one think if you wanna go and modify your body thinking no one will have judgemental thoughts than you are sadly mistaken. Every mod sets you apart from the "norm" and makes you more vulnerable to peoples opinions (apparently we don't have feelings). All you can really do is go about your daily day and take criticism like water off a ducks back. I live in the countries capital where a lot of politics and very straight people with no tattoos and no piercings. I get snickered at everyday with my tats and piercings and i just laugh at how stupid some people can be. We can't change the world but we CAN at least make an impact. Hey, i am training to be a teacher and i have been working with charitable organisations for the past 3 years helping children from poor or bad backgrounds have a better outlook on life. I'm training in music and have worked with many people in studios to give them a wider spectrum of options. I'm also one of these tattoo'd lowlife scum you have mentioned. I love body art and it's something that is becoming more accepted in society. I'm sorry if you are still stuck in the past and believe that tattoo'd people are the dregs of society but you probably still hang black people and like to have sex with your sister.
