Hey everyone..
There is a programme that is recently out (well in South Africa atleast) on the Discovery channel that documents Miami Ink.
I was wondering who all watches it and what your views and opinions are of the programme and the tattoo artists on the show.
peace

I use to watch the re-runs late at night when I couldn't sleep.
I like the show fair enough. Sometimes I don't really care for all the coverage of the drama that goes on between the shop members.
For some reason I prefer the new show, L.A. Ink.

I like it because it's about something I love- ie tattooing.
The artists seem pretty good, but then I don't have much knowledge in that department. It annoys me when they pick on Yoji though.

i ust to watch it but the amount of fakeness going on in the program like many other american programs just pissed me off to much.
every single tattoo shown had a meaning behind it. what? does no one in miami go and get at tattoo purely because they like that it?
and one more thing. im not 100%sure on this thing but i will go by what the credits say. the names used in the show (for most of them) arnt their real names. wtf is up with that?

i agree with that. it also annoys me a bit that some people blatantly only go on that show because they want to promote themselves - not because they want a tattoo.
the show is alright, i quite like it. but i only watch it if nothing else is on.
------------- well i might have somethin' to say about that, space man!

If I'm getting my facts straight, I think the tattoos there cost quite a bit of money - even for very small designs. So to me, it would seem pointless for someone just coming in looking for flash, or a tattoo just for fun to go there, especially if there are other qualified artists in the area.
I also imagine that they don't show all their customers on the show, so probably they only show that tattoos that will make for an interesting episode.

you acutally have to fill out an aplication on why you want the tattoo on the show and such thats why mos of the people arent even from florida when they get tattooed, thats why they all have meanings

yeah.. I find it really anoying that tehre is all the chit-chat in between, but its like that with many of the documenting programmes.. You just have to deal with it..

I like the show but they need to put more actaul tattooing on it. When it first started it was quite good because he went through the process of how everything was done and even explained about sanitation. I get bored of the drama though. But i guess its an american thing

Hate it!
Total misrepresentation of the industry.
Tattoo-Wars was the only good "reality" show on tattooing.Imo

I used to watch it a few years ago, but now haven't seen it in ages. They did some decent tattoos on there occasionally.

The tattoos all have meaning, because that's only what they broadcast. If you want something "meaningless" (I hate calling it that...) you can still get it there, it just won't be put on the show. They want to make good tv.
I actually have the opportunity to be on the show this summer if I can get the money. For a chestpiece, it's gonna cost me about $1500-2000, so yeah, they are fucking pricey.

I like it...it's a bit cheesy, but fun :)
Ami (or however he spells his 'name') really annoys me. He makes out that nearly all shop owners are big headed gits (ie like in London Ink. That guy annoys me too.)
There was one when a girl was getting a koi done on her calf or something, and he was arguing and swearing at her just because she was flirting with him. wtf?
UNPROFESSIONAL.

I'd say that Beckham is almost as good at picking a good tattoo artist than I'm good at playing football.

I think the tattoos all have a meaning, or else no one would watch it. I mean, it's not like they broadcast EVERY tattoo they do, right?
Besides, which one would people want to watch more? The person who got it just because they could, or the person who wants it to symbolize their best friend who just died from a cancer?

That just made my day.
I never liked LA/Miami/Whatever Ink. It always struck me as being wayy too fake. I pretty much live at a shop as everyone I know seems to work there. The most dramatic thing that goes on is when the 350lb piercer hits on the 18 year old girl in Ug boots that wants her navel/nose pierced.

lol lucky you our piercer succeeds when he flirts and the owners wife comes down on our asses with stupid shit cuz shes the manager of a dairy queen and think that qualifies her to know how to run a tattoo parlour....plus the guy only opened up shop in november never owened a business and has bad credit....thank god it don't affect our work lol.....just the stress....

Never cared for any of the tattoo shows, they were all about shop
drama. Anybody that works in a shop knows what i mean, to much drama
and not enough art.

I watch it once in a while.. -I like it. I don't take it too seriously though, but it's good entertainment I think.
I prefer MIAMI Ink over L.A. Ink though... -there too much focus on the "fighting" that is going on between the tattoo-artists in Kan Von Dee's shop, and that doesn't interest me a whole lot.

It's television...I take it for what it is, and enjoy that it's mod themed... No, it really isn't informational at all, it's drama tv.
