i can't say that i remember the pain being too awful.
a few tips:
definately stick with the longer jewelry for at least a year, my original jewelry was way too short, so i got some nasty little bumps that just cleared up about a month ago.
try not to get your hair wrapped around the bar, if thats the jewelry you have. sleep with your hair in a ponytail if you can, it helps.
careful putting the phone up to your ear. sometimes you forget.. and you're unpleasantly reminded. lol
good luck! industrials = love, for sure.

Bringing up an "old" topic, but i have a question too.
I'm thinking of getting an industrial too, now the only problem is i normally have to put on my helmet at least once a week (work and stuff). I guess i could get my parents to drive me there at first, but i was wondering how long i would have to wait for the industrial to be safe before i could put my helmet back on? And if PTFE-jewellery would be the best choice because it isn't as hard as surgical steel? (Some people said to watch out in the inital month or so with bumping and stuff but i don't really know how the industrial would work with a helmet) Thanks :) |

PTFE jewellery would be good because its flexible and would take more damage. I'm not sure how long you'd have to wait.
Industrials are pretty painful. Mine bled a lot. 12ga needles, 14ga barbell. I had mine done with separate jewellery once and the holes weren't lined up and I had to wear PTFE in it, a normal barbell caused too much pressure. I say get it done with a barbell to start. It'd be easier to line up properly, and you wouldn't have to go through the pain of switching jewellery. Also, if its done with 2 separate piercings, they can migrate while healing and cause it to be off.. Some people swear by 2 pieces of jewellery and others swear by starting it off with one. I'm for starting it off with one. I had less problems that way. |

Hmmm...In my experience with cartilage piercings and helmets is that it HURTS like a bitch to get the helmet on and off...
After all my cartilage piercings i had to put my helmet on and go home...its not done them any damage...but it does hurt alot...

It also hurts a hell of a lot getting a bike helmet stuck on cartilage piercings! (Cringes in memory...)
I try to stay away from top of the ear mods when I know I'm going to be regularly on a bike.... so I'm taking a while off of biking purely to get my ear projects done!
You could of course try to get around the issue by wearing a helmet which isn't full face... but I personally would rather keep my whole face if I crash the bike ;)
I am presuming you're talking about motorbikes here though rather than bicycles!

Wouldn't a non full face helmet also cover the ears though? *forgets*...Either way...it hurts :P

There's less issue with having to pull the whole thing over the head.... it's almost impossible to put on a full face without catching your ears. Open face helmets at least mean you don't have to squeeze your head through a gap only big enough for a head... but most will still cover your ears.

Alright, thanks for the answers to begin with ^^
And yeah, i meant a (full face) motorcycle helmet. Anything else that doesn't cover the ears, back of the head, etc.. isn't allowed here :s And a jet helm (which i think you're talking about? ) would still have to be put on the same way as a full face so that wouldn't really help i think...? @Freak_Nutcase: Pain wouldn't be an issue, it's the damage i'm worried about ;) So in the end the best thing would be to not put on my helmet for the intital healing-period of 2 months (?)... DIfficult choice for me tbh... |

I got my industrial done in February, it's a pain in the ass still.
I ride and have a full face helmet and it sucks to put on, I kinda of have to cup my hand over my ear while putting it on slowly... and taking it off it worse because I can't put my hand there, I just have to wiggle it off my head in the opposite direction of my industrial. Other than those issues, I love it! It still gets red and a bit painful on top, but... it'll happen. Edited by sugar - September/06/2008 at 1:44pm |
