always good to see someone helping out. i had an apprenticeship, but the artist quit and moved out of state before i could even get my machine set up. so i have everything, just can't get it running. Montana, great info for everyone. i know scratchers are highly looked down on, but sometimes years of practice on your own time tattoo skin from the butcher shop or on the poly vinyl skins are the only way you can start.

It's nice to see someone taking the time to give a bit of insight into how to prepare yourself to get into the industry.
I've been "counter girl" in the studio for over a year now and i've been learning things i didn't even know i didn't know. Cross contamination, contraindications, basic first aid - like being able to spot a fainter, understanding why certain medical conditions and medication can prevent someone from getting pierced. I've studied human biology and anatomy and physiology for quite a while but applying it in a studio environment can be very different.
As well as that i've started getting my hepatitis vaccinations to make sure i have clean blood before i start, i'm not sure if this is a problem in other contries but i've had to get mine done in walk in clinic as having a record of the injections in my medical file can affect my ability to get a morgage or insurence in the future.

Where are you from badseed?
I had hep b shots when I worked in a studio...
In the UK, apparently if you go for HIV tests it can affect your ability to get life insurance or a mortgage.

i've just looked and apparently it could only affect you if you're HIV positive.
