Hey I want to get some surface piercings but I've heard that over time they will get pushed out. I don't want to get any odd scars from that , but its only something that I've heard. So a bit of insight would be sweet.
thanks ![]() |

well..so far the only surface one i have is my sternum..
so far its been really good..plus it didnt even hurt at all.. but it was only at a standard 12g.. 1 inch long i love it i got it done in February... and so far its not showing any signs of breaking threw the skin.. maybe it will eventually? dont kno i have had friends that got thier anti eyebrow and it only was in for a few months before it ripped out but i guess it was because it wasnt even pierced that deep? |

If you have it done properly, it could last a long time.
Unfortunately, surface piercings tend to reject. Some people can heal them though, with a lot of TLC and luck.. I had one in my sternum, done with a rather shitty, piercer-bent surface bar, for over 2 years. I'd recommend getting it done with a flat Anatometal surface bar with disks as ends. Or microdermals, they seem to last longer, but the success rate isn't 100% and they're harder to get out. |

I have had 3 different surface piercings and they all started rejecting over time, yes. But I think it really depends on who does them, how you take care of them, and what type of jewelery you wear in them will effect how long they stay or whatever.

If your surface piercings are done correctly they should outlast dermals anchors by years. I know people who have had surface piercings for 10yrs. Dermal anchors wont last past a year or two. They are essentially a a pocket that collects build up and dead cells which will cause them to push out after a while. Dermal anchors are not permanent. Surface piercings can be very permanent. Anchors do initially heal alot faster then a surface piercing though. If you chose to go with anchors, I just reccommend getting them for what they are and that is temporary. They will scar quite a bit less than an incorrectly done surface piercing that rejects.
