all that matters is that the person with the tattoo is happy with it.. if you don't like something, don't put it on your body.. Some tattoos i have seen and thought were bad were just something the person drew out and wanted put on their body, the tattoo artist just did that for them. i have some bad ink... but i have good memories from when i got it done and i am happy with it for what it is. its on my body for life and i will always remember the fun times i had around the time i got it. its not all for looks its for what it means

As long as she likes it, that's all that matters, surely?

Well, just tell her she has shit on her. Tell her the truth. But tell her as well that you also started with shit on you, that your early ink was debatable as well, that for instance your piece on your breast is pretty bad (it is), and that you learn from your mistakes.
Before I started to get decent ink by decent artists, I also had a few first shitty experiments. That's life.
Take her online and show her what good artists can do, in every style, japanese (shige or filip leu), cartoon (jesus sayalero or dimitri HK), realistic (mike devries, jeff ensminger, nick baxter), dark (roberto hernandez), portraits (bob tyrell, anil gupta), biomechanic (aaron cain, guy aitchinson) and good artists mastering more styles (rob koss, tin tin, bernie luther), then show her people like Bugs, Mario Barth, Joe Capobianco, try to explain her with facts - and no with words - how vast a tattoo can be creative.
Tell her that a good artist can not only touch it up, but do something outstanding. Tell her that a good tattoo artist charges good prices because talent has a price. And help her understanding that even if you have to start from somewhere, you're NEVER forced to do shit.
I started four months ago, I didn't apprentice, started alone, you can have a look at my portfolio and you'll see that I never made such stupid mistakes. Always tried to work nicely from the very start. A scratcher will start as a scratcher, and will always remain a scratcher. It has nothing to do with having little experience : if you're serious, love what you do, are 100% involved and put all your heart in it, you can't end up puting true shit on people.
I think you have to be honnest to educate people. It's quite important to share your knowledge. I think that being honnest will hurt your friends feelings for a few minutes but will save her from going to a scratcher again.
And I also think that some of your flower tattoos are quite nice, but that they are no way as huge as you describe them. Some are very good art, some are just bad. Your lower back is pretty ordinary. Your breast rose is just bad. Your phoenix rising is very ordinary. And believe me, here I'm not talking about artistic choices, but only about technical merits. Look at your top of foot tattoo, look at the outline : you don't have a single line done correctly. Then, you have a few pieces done quite nicely, flowers mainly. But you should have a look yourself at the artists I listed above to start realizing that you can find much, much better artists than the ones that have tattooed you until today. I have tattoo snob tendencies... but I really try not to critique. Like someone said, "judge not, lest ye be judged..."
I have pieces of absolute SHIT. Well, one that I think is total crap, the others aren't TOOOOO bad. Like the tramp stamp... that'll be incorporated into the backpiece, thank god! The one on my ankle should just be gouged out or something. O.o BUT! I also got those before I started to become more educated on the whole subject. It's why I took like, a year to find the artist for my back. Yay Michele Wortman! <3333 The main things *I* am snobby about, are 'scratchers' and the random "oh! OH! lets stick a safety pin in my arm! how cool!" without ANY knowledge of ANYTHING. I know a lot big names these days started out on their own. Fine. I'm not trying to start any kind of arguements. I just know that I personally will NEVER go to someone who bought a tattoo kit on Ebay and now thinks they are the fucking bomb. :D But I digress... I agree with a lot of what Rouslan said, about showing her the quality of what is out there. (<333 aitchison too. but maybe i'm biased cause Michele is his wife? lol) |

I would say that to some degree I have that tendency, but my tendency is toward designs that just aren't appealing to me personally. A Japanese mask may not be looked at the same as say, a rotting skull with worms coming from the eyes. However, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate it for what it is either, which is one artists interpretation of something.
The three I have so far won't be appreciated by everyone, and I'm not looking for that. But if your friend wants an honest opinion from you, give it to her. If she was afraid to show you, I would be that some of it has to do with the fact that she knows there are problems. If she's good with it, that's what matters. |

I'm a snob! on my own tats . I don't comment on others i find less than good. Never want to upset or hurt a person that has ink for what ever reason they usually just love the hell out of it. and that makes the world go round

As long as the person is happy I don't say anything but if they aren't and ask what I think I'll be honest. I havent' really had a bad tattoo but I've made mistakes with getting piercings at bad places everyone usually has a crappy modification moment.

I just lie to my friends. I'm good at it and they seem to appreciate it.

I try to improve on every tattoo i have. The only time i get a bit snobby is when someone has lots of shitty random ones all over. A lot of people have their first crappy one. Some people have a second and third crappy one. But we all learn, well most do.
I like to think that my tattoos are good quality and i like them, though the style isn't to everyones taste, i get a fair few good comments on them. I always look at other peoples tattoos and am amazed by them. Sometimes for a minute or too i get disappointed that my tattoos aren't like theirs. But mine are a different style and they're all really well done.
I always see my skull upside down and it looks a bit lame. But sometimes i'll catch it in a mirror or see it in a photo, so i see it from someone else perspective, and i remember why i like it so much.
I wouldn't tell someone they have awful tattoos unless i didn't like them. It's such a gutting thing to think that you have something permanent that looks rediculous. I wouldn't put that into anyones head.

The one thing that bothers me is if an artise numbers the side of dice wrong. That and people who just buy machines then start tattooing people with no training or any thing. I have a few freinds who were going to a guy who had no experiance and still charged them for horrible tattoos, depending on how much I like the person who got the tattoo I give them an honest reaction.
