I think it depends on the reasoning behind. 18 is a good age. Here in jersey, anything younger is a parental consent. But I do know people who were getting tattoos at 13 for religious purposes.

I was 18 when I got mine. I have wanted tattoos since I was maybe 13 or 14, but I had a lot of shitty ideas in the time before I was old enough to get one.
Having that time allowed me to think about it a lot more and I think I chose something I am not going to hate in 5+ years.
I think 18 is a great age to get tattoos, I know a lot of people around 16 who would love to get one but they change their mind every few days about what they want.

You should be 18. I don't think you can get a tattoo here in Norway if you are younger. Even with parents approve

I personally believe the law in the UK should be raised to 21.
I was actually 14 when I had my first. I was a stupid ass. |

I think 18...gives folk time to mature and choose something that will be meaningful to them for the rest of their lives (before that your ideas and thoughts change alot and what you like at 13 might not be what you're into at 15 or 17).
People who are serious would wait until they're old enough. If they grow out of it then it's a good thing that they couldn't get it done :)

I got my first tattoo days before I turned 17... I knew the artist really well..
It was one blue star on each hip.. I eventually had them redone.. when I was 18.. I started with heavier coverage when I was 19 with a full backpiece and the start of a sleeve (which still isn't finished, my artists keep quitting). I got my first visible tattoo yesterday, on my 24th birthday, tears on my fingers. I think age is... shit, what's the word.. uh.. it means 'depends on the situation'. There are 19 year olds with their faces tattooed, no job, huge labrets/nostrils/etc.. And they really should have waited... I don't regret my first tattoo.. I got my second, a large leg piece, on my 18th birthday, my parents paid for it, and I still love it to this day. It's beautiful and has a lot of meaning to me.. Then I have tattoos I regret, that I got at like 21, 22... so hey, its really dependent on the situation.. |

In polynesian and maori culture, they used to start to tattoo boys at 10 or 11 y.o. Therefore I answered 13, as there wasn't any younger option :o)
Maoris rule.
