Sure an artist should be humble in his approach and be doing this not for any sort of external validation but at the same time why don't we have a large amount of pros here?? Is it maybe because any asshole with a needle can come along and post their shitty pics and say their pros? What does it say when we feature these so called "pros" for example antanaclassis or however you spell her name the 17 y/o "pro"? Does that not say that we advocate minors piercing other minors with inappropriate materials?
The pro issue is a serious one a very serious one. Again a real pro sure should know that they're a real pro and some status on a forum shouldn't matter too much but to come here and give out solid advice and then be disagreed with by some fraud who pierces his friends is bullshit. why should someones advice who doesn't know what they're talking about be held in the same regard as somone who works damn hard at their art eveyday and on a constant basis gives out good advice? why should we not appreciate these people? **edited to remove personal attack Sorry cheesestix that was a dick move on my part lol. ok first thing first, i think that we should have forum post rules like most other forums have. some clear & basic rules. for example if a new members wanna get some advice, they should search for previous posts b4 opening up a new but similar thread & people need to answer all over again. this is just my opinion & example.

I am personally not very active on the forums as i used to be. And i know a lot of old members that aren't anymore, just because the forums (and in general the whole site) went trough enormous changes in this last year (both negative and positive.
I reply most of the time only in the piercing/ body modifications related topics. I am more interested in it, giving advice and reading interesting things i don't know myself. When i come here i want to give an advice to new people in the world of bodymodifications and i want my knowledge to encrease by reading things i didn't know. I, most of the time, don't see a point posting in some threads in the 'general chit chat forum' part. I post there only if there's an interesting debate about something that i am a part of. I agree with Rouslan that this site is not a 'pro-friendly' one, there aren't many pros active on the forums, may it is because in this last period the non mod related part of the forums are way more active than the mod related ones. Many times i am online but i just don't reply on the forums if i don't find an interesting topic. The few pros that are active on the forums though (carrie, kcir, Rouslan himself) do a great job. I love reading at carrie's posts. She always has the right advice and sometimes i can correct my knowledge adding more things. I also like what eatenplacenta has to say, even though she's not a pro. I remeber some time ago Adam changed the forum organisation, moving the general forums down the list and bringing up the 'modification related' ones. This was good for some time but now that the number of members is increasing day by day it's not useful yet. I agree with the idea Rouslan stated, even if they're radical in some part they may be what the site needs to be a more modification related one. I have many other things to say that actually i forgotten, or that i have in my mind in italian but not in english haha, i'll repost soon if i'll re-have them. |

We do have basic rules. However, how do you force a newcomer to search for the advice first? Anything we do about it, ends in failure. Banning, well, thats horrible.. we could just delete their post... so they get no answer, and leave... we just tell them to search for it, so 90% will still leave... or we could just give them the answer, and in time, they will learn. |

I, on the hand, don't see the already answered questions as such a problem. I think this thread has shown that clearly there are plenty of people here dying to answer these questions.
Sometimes I like to ask questions about issues I'm having more for verification that I am doing the right thing, rather than because I didn't know what to do or couldn't find a topic on it already.
A personal response is much more reasurring.
I'd like to think that if someone here is freaking about a botched mod', we would do everything we could to help and advise them.

Yeah I agree with cheesestix I don't think the problem is people who come here for advice on piercings and tattoos and what not that's part of what makes this place great is that you can come here ask a question and get a good reply in a pretty short time too. The friendliness of the people here and the willingness to help is an amazing aspect of this community. The problem is that a lot of people come here and post inane crap on a daily basis and have seemingly no interest in modification besides having a few tattoos and a nose stud. Sure I'm responsible for some really inane insane possibly even grosteque shit around here and I myself may not start to may modification related posts but when they do come around I do participate in them if I can and if I can't really contribute much I do at least read them cause they're something I find fascinating. Again I don't so much mind the inane shit infact it's quite the opposite I like it but I ALSO like to discuss modification in a serious manner and lately that doesn't seem to be happening. Agian I don't have a problem if you have one tat or 90% of your body covered it doesn't matter lets just all take a step back though and try and improve the place we have all come to know and love so much.

I do agree with some of the points made, in particularly about the pro status, but everyone knows my views on that issue anyway.
I agree there is a total lack of forum threads that interest me at the moment, I'm more interested in the tattoo side of things than anything else and tbh the forums really don't cater for that....it seems to be more a of a piercing oriented forum. Not many people seem that into tattoos here. But whatever. It's probably just because none of us are starting interesting tattoo based threads. I don't know why pro's come and then leave. I was really excited when Bob Tyrell joined, as was I when Lucas Z, Tim Kern etc joined. Maybe they were, as Rouslan pointed out, turned off by the forums, perhaps it was the pro status thing (although I doubt it) or perhaps they browsed the tattoo galleries and came accross some of the badly done tattoos by scratchers. At the end of the day, there is no rule about quality of tattoos posted on this site (Just the quality of the pics) and it seems some people are just posting up any old shit to get their mod count up. I'm not saying I have the best tattoos. Far from it. And I personally see nothing wrong with the shitty tattoos being posted, but perhaps they might have thought continuing to post their work was a waste of time? I'm probably going to get flamed for this. Meh. Or maybe they are simply just really busy and don't get a chance to update? |
