I was just wondering how many people have had thier surface piercing for a long time (over a year at least)?  And anything you did to help them heal and not reject.

I had my hips done two different times and only got 7 months before they seriously rejected. They were pierced really well with no tension on the surface bar but still rejected.

I have had my madison an nape done for a couple of year an hand sureface hand piercings in for a couple of years before they rejected. An to be honest it is generally luck. But firstly placement is crucial as well as the right jewellery an them just hot salt soaks.

Using dermal anchors instead of surface bars helps. =P
I've had mine now for... 6 months (hips) and there isn't a single sign of rejection, and zero irritation.

punch and taper technique with custom surface bar, all done by an experienced piercer may lead to a nice result. I think that done properly your long term prospects are better than with dermal anchors or microdermals.

Ill look into the punch and taper. I dont know if I trust any of the local piercers though for that.

ive had my nape piercings for at least 3 years i think they grew out a tiny bit but they are fine most of the time, sometimes they get a bit aggravated if they get snagged or if ive been playing with them.. however weird thing is for all my other piercings hot sea salt soaks work wonders but on my neck it seems to make it worse. the only thing that makes it better is savlon (if you dont have it in the states or wherever, its like an antibacterial solution).
best thing to stop them rejecting is to leave them the hell alone i think lol try not to play with them and keep em clean

I would have to agree with Rouslan. I thingk a well placed surface bar has more chance of long term success then with a microdermal. I wouldn't really plan on having an anchor last over a year and a half or so. A good portion of my customers have been a able to keep them for a couple of years now with no signs of rejection. But I am not trying to fool any of them by telling them they are permanent.

A surface piercing is able to be cleaned thoroughly and therefore is able to survive indefinately. Dermal anchors are alot easier to heal initially than a surface piercing. In the longterm the anchor is unable to be cleaned thoroughly. Every anchor I have removed has had build up on it.

I know people that have had surface piercings in place for 7 or 8 yrs.

I think I've had my pubic for about 4 years now, I treat it just the same as any of my other piercings.
