![]() Topic: Delayed swelling on ear.Posted: September/11/2008 at 7:07pm |

OK, It's now thursday. On monday I had 2 14g bars insterted through my 'outter conch' (not sure if thats what it's called, towards the top of my ear) which I will be turning into an orbital once it heals.
My question is as follows: Is it normal for the swelling to be delayed? The first few days it was a little tender and slightly red around the piercings but today I noticed that most of the skin arround my cartiledge had become swollen and sort of a shinney red. I obviously expected some swelling seeing as I'd just stuck 2 pieces of metal closely together through cartiledge but I'm confused that it took 3 days for it to come up. The Pharmicy reccomended cleaning it with surgical spirit, which I have done about 5 or 6 times today and it seems to be calming down quite alot. I'm just glad I didn't get the bars in for the other orbital I want at the same time. other wise my ear would be very unhappy with me. Edited by Jack Crrack - September/11/2008 at 7:08pm |

Keep a close eye on them, it could be infection, especially since it is shiny red. It is not usual, but not abnormal for it to start swelling after 3 days when it hasn't swelled before. Ear cartilage is very finicky and any kind of trauma can make piercings act up. Simple things like sleeping on them, catching them on clothing, or accidentally bumping them while scratching your head can make them angry and swollen. I would recommend doing some sea salt soaks a few times a day if you haven't been already.

My friend did accidently knock them a good few times yesterday. Not really her fault though.
I've been cleaning them three or four times a day with salt water since I got it pierced so it shouldn't be infected. Although I've been cleaning my hair with just water for the past 6 years, so it's probably rather filthy. Doesn't feel hot like infected wounds usually feel. |
