it's about 6 weeks old. it was healing nicely until.. well.. i have no idea where it took a turn for the worse. but now it's swollen around the flat back, about the size of a dime in diameter. it's slightly sore, but doesn't really seem infected. i want to take it out but not if its an infection! the outside looks ok. no crusties or anything. i've been babying it with sss and not playing with it... even though my tongue wants to poke it like every 5 seconds. has this happened to anyone else? wtf IS that?? Dont panic loads of people get that going to ask your piercer what to do is your best advice casue me am my mates tend to do stupid things like cut it of with scissors or ignore. Keep cleaning it as well even though it seems healed you never know.

you may have gotten something in there, such as make up, hairspray or cat dander. or your flat back is just digging into your lip too much causing your lip to grow around the flat back. go to your piercer and ash for advice and get him or her to put a labret stud with a bigger back in there.

I have seen this many, many times. It seems to happen most often when people do not come back for shorter jewelry once the swelling goes down. Ill fitting jewelry causes excessive movement and irritation, and then the bump starts growing. You may not have room to size down right now, you may even need to get a longer post while the bump is there, but make sure at all times that your jewelry fits you properly. It should sit flush against your skin. If it sticks out, you need a shorter post. If it feels tight, you need a longer one. Try warm compresses on the bump 3-4 times a day. Soak a paper towel with the warmest water you can stand and put it directly on the bump until it cools. You could also try tea tree oil. Dilute it 50% with water and apply it directly to the bump once daily. You will want to hold your lip out while you put it on and then rinse it off after about 5 minutes. You don't want the oil to get in other parts of your mouth.
