The one thing that bothers me about getting permanent makeup, especially eyeliner is that your body changes.
So over the years, what may look great on your eyes now may look really haggard and sloppy later in life.
But other than that, it's a nice idea and probably adds an extra 5-10 minutes sleeping in time in the morning. :D

I know this woman that got the bright blue eye liner done in the 80s (brown eyes) and has to cover it up every morning with black liner....so it really didn't serve it's purpose then...

my friends mum got her aeroloa (sp) tattooed after having her breast removed and later reconstructed from cancer....she was so funny, she came into the salon where i worked at, it was a late nite thursday so we were really busy and she was like...CHECK THIS OUT!! really loud, and then asked folk in the salon if they liked it!! so pround of her new boobie.

Well, as far as correcting coloration after having had cancer and/or some other disfiguring disease, I can't say I'd blame them-I'd do the same in their footsteps. And I don't blame those who have it done, per se. Just some of the idiotic advertisements.

Well I'm gonna get a tattoo of a BUTT, with a BUTT-shaped tattoo on it, and I'm gonna get it right on my BUTT. That would be cool.

guin...do you actually have mods or are you here to poke fun of those of us who do? a cosmetic tattoo artist is still a body modification artist and deserves the same amount of respect that a piercer/tattoo artist should receive. granted, not all places that do it are respectable, but the places that do it right are no less skilled in their craft than any other artisan.

I regret if I gave that impression. My concern was more about the flashy ads, "We now do permanent make-up!" than it was about actual professional cosmetic tattoo artists. It looked the same as "Spring special-Free Pedicure with Manicure!" type signs.
MY impression from the sign was that they care more about getting business than actually informing customers of all that was involved. That's all. We cool? (Mostly, I came here to get advice on a troublesome nose-piercing) ETA: I DO think the reconstructive aspect part is pretty damned cool. ok here goes you have to go to make-up school and there they will provide another class that will let you do permanent make-up. yes the is a different machine and ink because the fact that it is right by your eye and you dont want ink to infect your eye.
also yes most men want do it because it is a girly thing but most female tattoo artist will do it if they have the training; but yes most of the time you will only find it offered in spa's or richy salons( higher class) |

That makes sense. I was curious as to whether or not women come into your friendly neighborhood tattoo parlors and ask for it.
And as I said, it sounds like a good idea in theory-in practice, not so much. |

There's a lady who had her eyebrows tattooed by my boss, she had them done at a beauty salon at first and they were apparently really wonky.

I think that in advertising, cosmetic tattooing is pretty much like traditional tattooing, some of it is advertised by people who may not be the best and just want to get clients into the shop/office, while some is done by very qualified people who do great work.
Where I live, it gets offered in a number or settings, from regular tattoo shops (where as far as I can tell, there's always a female staff member who specializes in cosmetic work), to beauty salon/spa settings, to doctor's offices (usually dermatologists or plastic surgeons). The best way to find someone who does good work is by word-of-mouth, and by checking out what they themselves do to themselves aesthetically, just like with traditional work. If your cosmetic tattooist has harsh, trendy makeup, she's more likely to apply it to a customer.
A friend of mine with alopecia had eyebrows tattooed on. I think they look pretty natural, but because the effect is subtle, the ink does fade and needs touch-ups about every third year.
