I find in the last stage of healing it looks a bit dull for a few days and then is bright afterwards for some reason.
I use Udderly Smooth. Whenever I need it.. I don't set myself to a certain amount a day. I have dry skin, so I use it often.
You have to let it breathe.. petroleum products can clog the pores, cause zits, and trap bacteria.

i haven't seen aquaphor do that, as it has a lower amount of petrolatum in it that most other petroleum products. Plus, the clogged pores (which are the CAUSE of the zits) only happen if you use too much, and that can happen with ANY aftercare product.
I have titties.

it puts the lotion on its skin. it does this whenever its told!
haha i always think of that when someone makes a forum about this.

my most recent tattoo was my first color, and the entire thing scabbed over and peeled off. i totally freaked. but it was just as vibrant as ever when it was totally healed, and now i just need a bit of touch up. no harm done!

oh and i didn't put anything special on it. just unscented lotion.

some people scab worse than others.. I've had the lizardy thing happen to all my tattoos, and all the color stayed. Just use lotion when you notice its dry and maybe try not washing it in the shower just rinsing it off. It will be vibrant again once its healed. mine have always turned weird colors while healing.. oh and off topic kinda... It would be cool if people on here would take daily pictures of their tattoos healing and then say what they use to see how different products work for different people..

Keep using the lotion. The reptile feel is normal...just dont pick at it!! Whatever you do! lol  Once the scabs fall off, in there own time, the ink underneath will be nice and vibrant again. :) So dont worry.

I believe that everyones skin is different. I think different factors might make different healing approaches more appropriate for different people, including whether you have naturally dry or oily skin, if you live in a dry or moist environment, how quickly you heal and how strong your immune system is, whether you tend to break out or are prone to rashes ect....

The generic "safe" advice is to only use unscented hypo-allergenic lotions, and no oil or petroleum products....that is probably an ok way to heal for most people, perhaps the majority, and some people might have reactions to alternative methods.

However, for me personally, I have always had the best results when I completely ignored the advice of my artist and used oil based products from day one anyway. I hardly peel and keep more colors using oil based lubricants than water based ones....I still heal quick, never break out, never lose color, never get infected.....but thats just me, and Im not a statistic of what can happen.

I personally do better with oil or even petroleum based products. Perhaps some other people dont do as well with them.

Yeah, I'm starting to worry about the color being vibrant though, It's been peeling like crazy, and I SWEAR its not as bright or vibrant as when it was first done, I could just be going crazy though, o.O lol.
