![]() Topic: The fear of arm tattoosPosted: September/02/2008 at 9:17am |

Ok...So I have something to admit.
I am afraid of arm tattoos. Meaning, I am afraid to get one. Which sucks, because I have a really cute design that I want to get in my inner arm: (I know its small but at least it gives the artist SOMEthing to go off of) ![]() I don't know what makes me so nervous...maybe because I am young and if I get it now, I am afraid of what my 40 year old arms will look like with such a young tattoo I can tell you I am NOT afraid of a visible tattoo...thats what I am craving so bad right now...I plan to get a acorn doing a "Behind the ear" position like, but lower and completely visible...and with no problem with it at all. And I love this tattoo...I have had the image for nearly three years. The assistant at my tattoo shop was laughing at me when I told her this. She said I was weird. Its not like I am not down for the long haul...If I was I wouldn't get the tattoo ANYWHERE. Can anyone gives me any bravery tips on getting a first arm tattoo? Or if I should just wait...or maybe put it in another place (But you have to give me ideas where...she isn't going to be that big...maybe like six inches...) Is it just the excitement/nervousness of a first really visible tattoo? Btw..finally...after waiting to get my college expenses out of the way this Friday I am going to get a small tattoo. Its going to be a cartoon hamster...in tribute to my first hamster Mr fatty (who yes is still alive but that doesn't mean I can't tribute it to him) ***edit I should add my 46 year old mother has a tattoo on each upper arm...one is a cover up and another a banner...they look bad (Bad artist) but I think I could live with it esp if mine is done WELL. She also has three others...one on her back that if it was just touched up would still look awesome... Edited by Euphoric - September/02/2008 at 9:20am |

If I got a dollar for every time I repented the sin then committed the same crime, I'd be standing on top of the world today...

I'm exactly the same. I have a couple of designs in mind that would look great on the arms but I never get round to doing anything about them.
I think the main issue for me is that arm tattoos can often look quite manly. Loads of girls can pull them off and look great but I'm not sure I'm one of them so that makes me nervous. I know it shouldn't though as both the designs are quite feminine.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they do look manly, just that they can look manly if you see what I mean

lol maybe thats it :)
Yeah I don't really care what I look like when I am 60.... But I have tanned skin (But not tan tan...like red tan its my native American in me) and my arms I wouldn't saw are manly..but maybe not as small and petite as others. But good arms run in the family...my mom still doesn't have the arms that keep waving when you don't LOL Maybe its actually the tan issue. I need to go google some more girls with arm tattoos I think! I am pretty sure I am going to go through with it anyways. I am going to get my nude pin up on my side first...just to give me some more thinking time. |

This is a pretty feminine design, it definitely won't make you look manly!
I'll see if I can find some hot girls with sleeves for you :) http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/25321/25321-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Pierce/PierceImages/42414/42414-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/tat/tatImages/16364/16364-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/26195/26195-19558-full.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/25224/25224-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/25000/25000-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/24856/24856-med.jpg http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages/24166/24166-med.jpg Edited by SierraFoxtrot - September/02/2008 at 10:29am |

Go for it, you might as well get it in a location you like rather than somewhere else. My brother's first tattoos were on his wrists.
I start a full sleeve at 19, and it fits my arm and is very colourful and not at all manly. (My Little Pony!) |

most of the women i've worked with have nice sleeves. i think they look great when planned out and done well. my only advice is to plan the entire thing instead of piecing it out. if you want half-sleeves, design for that and leave room for more. but it's really hard to tie things togeather that are unrelated and still have them look feminine.

i have tats on both outer shoulders and one that goes around my arm. i'm pushing close to 60 and i think my tattoos look as good as when i got them. there was very little to no pain at all no my outer shoulders. the one that goes around had the most pain on the back edge of my arm the in side part stung more then it hurt. if you wait to long you might not get it at all or when you do get it end up mad at your self for putting it off. as for keeping your tattoos looking good is just a madder if how you take of them. as for how my tats look when i get older i might worry about them when i get about 80 are 90 may be.haha
