If you were to get it done, I reckon it'd just be a temporary tattoo; the skin on your hands fades so fast from how much we use them, it wouldn't be there for more than five minutes. It sounds as if that's ok with you though, so go find an artist! Haha. I also think it'd be alot alot alot cooler in U.V ink.

i have a forearm tattoo that extends onto my palm slightly. we had to go VERY deep for it to take, and even then it was only crisp for a few months. i think with the uv ink, yes, the blurring and fading wouldn't show, perse, but when under uv, which is when it would be more than obvious to notice, the effects of time would most certainly show. though if they're just simple circles, and if the fading and blurring is uniform, then i think it would look neat new, old, whatever.

palm and finger tattoos don't usually hold up very long due to the exfoliation of skin and the buildup of natural oils in combination with forces being exerted by the movement of muscles beneath the (thin) surface.
the skin on your hands is tough and fibrous, doesn't contain much fatty substance, and is not conducive to tattooing. many times when you see a palm tattoo it's within the first several days of having it done. after a week or two they start fading badly and being rather difficult to identify as the original shape. i've seen several hand tattoos stick, most were done repeatedly until they stayed, but that is an exercise in patience on your artist's part and pain tolerance on yours. as far as the fingertips go, i think your best bet would be to inject the ink directly, like what was done with the eyeball tattoos. if it sits beneath the subcutaneous level it should be still visible, yet be far enough back that it wont push forward. true, but so would amputation, and that's legal. they are your fingers after all.

however amputation is irreversable, so they don't really have a say in it - and no way to know if it was on purpose, accidental or medical.

metalbabe, I haven't been accused of or convicted of a crime -yet- so its not an issue for me to change my fingerprints as I see fit, a tattoo wouldn't change the fingerprint but a good scarring might.
In any case, with this done my fingerprints would be even more recognizable than before and thus it would defeat the purpose of changing them if I was changing them to evade police business.. I am rambling. kcir, can you give me more information on this ink injecting? Do regular tattoo artists do this or would it take me while to find someone to do it? thanks to everyone else for you thoughts/advice :) |

it'd be a retalively safe procedure i'd imagine. the hole would be done with probably a 18g needle (tattoo pigments are rather thick) and would close pretty quickly. regular tattoo ink should work. hardest part would be to find an artist with a syringe capable of pumping the pigment. keep in mind that you'd probably end up with just a shapeless blob.
