Ok so i just stretched my helix piercing from 14GA to 12GA (using tape method) and it was painful as hell (which is prety much what i was expecting) BUT my goal is 6GA and i can only stretch but please do not say how i should be getting it punched becuase due to my town (being a small country town) i only have a piercing shop that only does "normal" piercings nothing "out of the ordinary" which means no Dermal Punches or Implants and i live prety far out of town anyways so getting it punched is out of the question i just want to know how many stretches would i be safe doing for the top of my ear without any problems (apart from pain and time)
Thank you

apart from pain and time, you could go pretty much as big as you'd like depending on your ear and the location of the piercing.

I was wondering about this too... some people have told me that it's impossible to stretch cartilage beyond 2mm or so.

I am also stretching my helixes. I've found the safest way is to take it nice and slow. When I stretch, I only go up 2 gages at a time; 16 to 14, 14 to 12, and so on. I also give them plenty of time to heal in between. I try to wait until they don't hurt when I tug on them. Take it nice and easy, listen to your body, and watch the cartilage for buckling or distortion. Good luck!

Dumb blonds are a myth; they are actually brunettes that have bleached their hair so often it has seeped into their brains.

i've stretched helix/cartilage piercings and i plan on doing it further. i've also stretched my inner conch punches.
basically what restricts you is placement. if you check out some of my photos you'll notice that my left top helix is placed along the ridge, and that will restrict heavy duty sizes. right now i've got two stretched helix piercings in my left ear, the top being 2g(6.5mm), stretched from 16g(1.3mm) and the lower being 8g(3.3mm), stretched from 14g(1.6mm), in my right ear i have two 10g(2.6mm) industrials stretched from 14g(1.6mm), and i have the conches that were done at 0g(8.3mm) but i have stretched to 7/16"(11.1mm). all this stretching has taken place over a few years. you can't move quickly at all. i usually wait many, many months in between stretches and i only stretch when things are very loose. i use the tape wrapping method for my bigger sizes but the smaller ones just slip in after waiting long enough. in your photos, which helix piercing is it? the top or lower? taking a look at the photos the one placed higher up looks as if it might have larger stretching capabilities because of placement. if it is the other one then you will likely manage 6g(4.1mm), but not much more. i think it is quite in reach for either placement though. just take your time. i'd recommend using glass jewellery to stretch and to wear during healing, i use these personally and healing isn't even uncomfortable, let alone the stretch itself: http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=1357 |

Cartilage stretching is a bitch, but it can be done. I stretched my inner conches from 6ga to 2ga. Over 4 years.
It takes a while. I'd recommend getting it done with a Dermal Punch, or larger gauge needle if you can't get it punched. It'll save you a lot of frustration (and jewellery!) and it heals pretty quick. (Dermal punches heal faster than most needle piercings, I've noticed.) Good luck! |

Placement is good for further stretching. I can't say exactly how far you will be able to go, but you should be able to get up your goal.
