i think its its both faults, the government should be more into making it more adequet areas for walking, but honestly i think its peoples fault as well for not walking on the dirt and such, i mean its not going to kill them and i dont take the whole not wanting to get dirty as an excuse, shoes are made for waliking, there gonn get dirty, its about sel control as well, people can point fingers all they want but ultimately its there own free will that makes them the way they are, i guess im just used to not having sidewalks growing up in the country in iowa on a farm and such

But there it's too expensive for both things! lol. I went to Publix today and found a pound of plums for 79 cents (about £1.60) which is amazing, in the uk (im from london), it would have cost me well over three pounds for the same thing. Tonight though i went to Applebees and had a bit of a pig out, feel really sick now (and had to drive there as there aren't any sidewalks and the i4 is quite badly lit for a main road). I had veggy fajitas with rice and was full after 1 fajita, felt really bad for leaving 90% of my meal ! |

It's hard for people to eat healthy sometimes, it really is. For starters, fruits and vegetables are very expensive, and vegetarian and vegan foods are more expensive than red meats, fried food, and fattening dairy. There are a lot of people in or near poverty in the States, and it's getting worse every month. Most people in the US have to work a lot of hours to pay the bills and buy necessities. On average, Americans work more hours than citizens of any other country, AND our health care is worse. Many people don't have the time and energy to cook healthy meals after working all day, taking care of their kids, and everything else that needs to be done. As a result, they end up at places like McDonald's where the food is cheap and the portions satisfy the whole family. Plus, on lunch breaks, it's much faster and cheaper to go to a vending machine or a drive-thru than it is to bring a salad or go to a health food store. People should know better than to eat a lot of fattening foods, yes, but because of our rush-rush, work-driven way of life, lower-income people don't really have a lot of options.

I agree, I'm vegan myself and trying to find vegan, even veggy things here is a nightmare. I've been on salads and fruit for four days as even the bigger supermarkets don't do good quality veg essentials. I understand people don't have time and i sympathise with them, i'd have trouble keeping my weight down if i was an american citizen. I really feel that your government needs to do something about the price of fresh food, meats, veg, fruit, rather than lower tax on junk to make it cheaper for people to buy. ps. to all the lovely american people on here.this is the millionth time i have been to america (ok so probably about the 20th), i think your country is amazing and everyone is so friendly !!(and if you are thinking about visiting the UK, make sure you have enough money as it's double of what you pay here for things ) xxx |

I know the subject has changed, but I'd like to take this moment to express how thoroughly entertained I am by the fact that you took a picture of those people. I don't know why really. Just the thought of you seeing this and thinking to take a picture.

I did the same when I was at walmart with my mom...there was this woman (mid 40s) that was wearing a skirt so short you could see her cheeks, which is such a great example for the 3 kids she had with her...anyway, I took a pix with my cell phone & sent it to my dad!
And as far as the unhealthy American food, I'm kind of lucky. I live in a hippy town so organic food is everywhere, and we have open markets tuesdays and saturdays that sell amazing fresh organically grown fruits & veggies. Oh and in our schools they pulled all soda and candy from the vending machines...just fruit drinks and granola bars are left. That's not to say there aren't fastfood places, but we have more options.

I'd rather critique peoples' clothes. (NOT make fun of them, just sort of comment on them). Some people really need mirrors. Like, why do some women just leave the house without combing their hair, or bothering to wear clean clothes-just dirty, wrinkled tee shirts and those baggy not-quite sweat pants, but not quite leggings? Have some pride in yourself! (I'm NOT talking about styles-such as goth, punk, etc-so much, as just people who have no sense of style.) Sorry, I'm a fashion-whore.
Gah, ladies, someone needs a make-over, hello! As for good foods-anyone ever try Fiber One bars? They're so good. (I've recently lost about 16 pounds just by walking to work once I get off the bug downtown, rather than taking the other bus). Edited by Guinastasia - August/28/2008 at 7:10pm |

Well I'm gonna get a tattoo of a BUTT, with a BUTT-shaped tattoo on it, and I'm gonna get it right on my BUTT. That would be cool.
