this is definately not going to stop me from doing another suspension. i'm working on setting up my next suspension right now. with any type of body modification there are risks and we must all understand those risks. whether it's a piercing, tattoo, scarification, suspension, nullification, implant, etc.

I think it's important to take a look at, instead of just saying 'accidents happen'. Some one got hurt pretty badly and we should all learn from it. I know my group will no longer be using quick links, in fact we're going to be sitting down and going over all of our equipment and procedures to see where improvements can be made, where we can replace potentially dangerous equipment (like the quick links) with something safer.

I don't really get suspension as a performance art, I would love to do one and I would not mind having some friends and other body modders around watching but watching that video just bothers me. It was the kind of thing where you know there were people in the crowd going to their buddies "I hope that fat ass falls". I've always been told that suspensions have a spiritual quality and stuff like that but seeing that guy go up and flail around didn't make me feel that at all it was like watching nascar some poeple are there for the race but most are for the crash. Any way it sucks for that guy and I hope he has a quick recovery and hopefuly only good will come from this insident and people will take more precaution. |

shit happens. they should have gone into it with better materials, but they know what they did wrong. suspension isn't for the meek minded or the thin of skin. the people doing it know the risks of doing it to themselves and others. one of the first things about being a body modification artist is being confident enough to hurt someone and know that it could go differently than you planned. the bad press and broken leg should be enough for them to rethink doing it half-assed in the future. some people have to smash their thumbs a few times before they realize the right way to hit a nail.

Not knowing jackshit about suspension, (and I'd never do it, because just the idea OF DOING IT MYSELF makes me run screaming
 ), but how high do people usually go? Damn, that sucks. Note: when I say run screaming-I just mean painful stuff like that tends to freak me out-I don't like pain. For those who are into it-rock on with your bad self.  |

A friend told me last week about this story after I told him I was going to be doing suspension for the first time soon. I hate that people use these kinds of accidents as justification that we shouldn't be doing it. Then again, there are car accidents ALL the time, and yet we keep on driving.
