Browsing through the BME Encyclopedia i came across this particular mod: a superincison. (reference to the article: http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Superincision )
Direct quote from the article:
Point of the topic is that I was wondering why the superincison would be more dangerous than a subincision? All i could think of as of why it is more dangerous is 1) bleeding to death because you could hit the urethral artery but this can also be done when doing a subincision or 2) irreversible damage to the erectile bodies (but again, the same thing could happen when doing a subincision). Possibly (read "probably") i'm forgetting about an important part of the penile anatomy which is making it a lot harder for me to find a plausible explanation, but i hope you wouldn't mind helping a newbie out here ^^ PS: something funny i found searching for an answer (will probably derail the topic but it thought it was pretty funny):

Because a superincison you are separating the two halfs of the corpus cavernacium , and you have to be exactly in the corect spot or you could blead a lot more than you would ever want to !

But cutting too deep with a subincision could cause the same (and a bigger) problem because you would hit the urethral artery (which is located between the urethra and corpus cernacium if i'm not mistaking??) before hitting the corpus cavernacium (or cavernosum ?).

Im thinking the sub is alot easier to control when it comes to excess blood. As well infection traveling inward could possibly another possibility

... the corpus cavernosum (I think that's how you spell it) being the erectile tissue, you don't want to cut through that the wrong way. With a subincision you would cut through a much thinner layer of tissue, the corpus spongiosum, which is supposed to keep the urethra from collapsing during an erection, so you don't lose any important functions when cutting through it. Google "Penis anatomy" and click images, you'll find some nice anatomical drawings to illustrate the matter :-) Edit: typo. Edited by linda - August/25/2008 at 6:24am |
