I'm wanting spinal plating, a single plate (Shape yet unknown) to each vertabre, but frankly I haven't heard or seen it done before so I'm still iffy on how exactly I could.
I'm sure I don't want the plates to be pierced to me as it's on a very mobile joint (Bending and such) and the risk of the plates moving away from where the were placed is high (Or so I'm told).
I thought perhaps a single bar to each side of the vertabre (So not to effect the movement of them) that would come above skin so I could attach each plate... It certainly is easier to explain verbally then here >< If you care to aid me in my search for way to do this but need further explanation let me know. |

Hmm, I honestly, don't think this would be a successful endeavor. First off you're "plates" I imagine are going to have two holes were you're jewerly connects to them. These two holes are going to be toleranced at a set distance apart. That doesn't quite work with piercings.
I'm going to assume you're going to be using microdermals in two parallel lines down each side of your spine. But, with the skin stretching so much there's such a high risk of rejection I'd be very surprised if they all healed well. There are a lot of vertebrae. It's a cool idea don't get me wrong. But, I just don't think that it would work out with good results. |

bad spot for an infection. real bad spot. 'nuff said?
edit: rum must be getting to me, i think i misread that. i thought you wanted subdermal plates, not hyperdermal. i dont see why well-healed trans-dermals placed at either side wouldn't work. you'd have to have a metalworker make you some custom-fit plates that fit with loosly-attached (so they dont put undue pressure on the implants) pins that connet to the threaded holes. how u gonna sleep on ur back afterward? that area is so irrtated by many movements. easily get infected, then if it spreads into the cerebrospinal fluid of the spinal cord, it will travel up & infect the brain. very dangerous. but cool idea.

And I have gotten the answers I figured I would.
I had hoped that I hadn't thought of a way it could do it.
But though the risks are high I still think there is a safer way to get it done, this is nothing I would be getting done for years yet so i have plenty of time to consult any sergeons I wish too. Normal piercings are not something I can look good with so any mods I do will be intense (Comes with the personality.) |

It seems pretty dangerous. Any fiddling near your spine can lead to life long damage, my mum had spinal surgery after a vertabre began to crumble (everything they've done hasn't helped just made it worse) and they advised her to not even get tattooed near her spine (I know this is just as hers is damaged and its fine other wise), but usually with implants there's an amount of trial and error while perfecting techniqes and there's not really much room for error with your spine.

Well, it wouldn't be deep enough to hurt your actual spine..
But stuff like that on the back is generally a bad idea.. healing would be very hard, you'd probably have to soak in a bathtub full of salt water.. the success rate would be low... it would affect a lot of things, sitting, driving, sleeping, standing.. its a high motion area.. I was going to get a spinal piercing way before I got my backpiece, my piercer put clamps on and told me to bend over, and I did and the clamps came right off.. I would have torn the piercing out immediately.. so its not a good idea.. |
