The easiest way to soak your lobes is to use either gauze or paper towel dipped in the solution and then applied to the piercing. You can also use cotton balls, but those tend to leave little bits of cotton behind that can irritate the piercing. |

Hi. This might be a silly question but do you take your earrings out before you dip your lobes into the solution or can you soak it with the earrings on? I just stretched my ears from an 18/20g to a 14 g and it's in pain right now...I heard sea salt solution works so I want to try it. I can't take my earrings out because it hurts too much...does sea salt help with infections too? thanks!

yes, you most certainly leave the jewelry in during a SSS

I know that straight from 20 to 14g seems little, but you've probably gone a bit fast.
Did you use lube? If not it may have ripped a bit. Anyway, as mentioned keep the jewellery in and do saline soaks. Don't mess with the jewellery any more than to clean the outside and pat it dry with a clean piece of kitchen roll or gauze. If the pain worsens then take the jewellery out, wait a few months and try again. Should settle hopefully though. The saline irrigates the wound, removing debris. It also balances fluid in the tissues. And finally, it does have some antibacterial action. 1/4 tsp to a cup of warm boiled water, 2-3 times daily, for 5-10 minutes. |

When all's been said and done, it's the things that are given, not won, are the things that you earned.

Yeah, I think I did do it too quickly...but the good news is that the pain stopped! The sea salt was a lifesaver. I dipped it the night I got a reply from you guys and the pain stopped (almost) completely the next morning. It was awesome. Now there's a bit of tenderness once in a while but it's not as bad anymore.
Would it do harm to my lobes if I replace my CBR (initial jewelry) with another jewelry like steel plugs or even white shell spirals? I only had my lobes enlarged for 6 days now...it might be too soon for spirals huh? What style/material of jewelry are best for someone with fresh piercing? Thanks! |

Unless your current jewelry is causing problems, it would be best to leave it in place. You only want to use stainless steel, titanium, glass, or PTFE/bioflex in fresh pierings and stretches. Stay away from acrylics, organic materials, and sterling silver. Solid 14k gold is usually OK if bought from a reputable vendor.

I went to my piercer a few hours ago since i had trouble getting the initial jewellery out (to switch it for my spiral i just got), and it appears the stretch still hasn't fully healed yet :s I have no idea how this could've happened: i did SSS for 2 months for 2 times a day, and now i do it every other day to clean it...
So could this just be my anatomy or something else? Because the jewellery is fine, my lobe has always been fine (i.e. no irritation, swelling, redness,... ever). My piercer also recommended i'd start doing SSS again for 2 times a day and put some teramycine on it afterwards... |

Oh, and she also said there was a little scab on the inside of my lobe (which is now removed and cleaned ofcourse), could this have caused it?
