The maturity level, or the lack there of, is totally dependant on the upbringing of an individual.

And Hulk Hogan's teen who just wrapped his Supra around a palm tree was a "Professional Driver." I don't think the Maturity Fairy waves her magic wand on one's 18th birthday and they're immediately dependable and responsible adults. Buuuuuuuuuuuut you have to admit that there is a HUUUUUUUUUGE difference in the mental capacity of the average 18 yr old compared to the average 13 yr old...and even from 13 to 16 and from 16 to 18.
The laws are there to protect teenagers from themselves...  I don't care if a kid is well versed in the pros and cons of tattoos, they still have no business making that decision, and an artist has no business inking a kid, especially without parental consent!
Hell! When I was 16, my best friend's dad was the most talented artist this side of Dallas...don't think I didn't start BEGGING for my first ink as a minor, because I did! He told me almost daily to f*ck off for two years before he'd touch me. I also tried begging him TWO DAYS before I turned 18, and he still wouldn't ink me! I may have hated him at the time, but I respect his ethics as an artist.

Let me address your post in the three parts I've seperated...Take your first statement "everyone's been young once and we all do stupid shit" and add it to your second statement "I do things right away, usually without thinkint them through, but when it comes to tattoos I don't care what I get."
Those two statements embody all of the reasons why someone under the age of 18 SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS THAT WILL AFFECT THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

Your third statement "I, for sure, do have a different outlook on certain things than most other people. We live in the now, not the then, so we should just live it, ya know." -- You may think these are profound words, but they are, in fact, the "profound" words of every 16 year old who has ever walked the face of this planet that we call "Earth."
Take this statement to heart, because you will not fully understand it until you've become an adult and have faced the consequences of the impulsive actions of your teen years and early adult years. "If I had half of the answers to life that I thought I had at 16 or 18, I wouldn't have made a fraction of the mistakes I did in those years."

no, i dont think anything i said was profound. i was just giving my 2cents, if you want to call it that, i know i do dumb things. i make mistakes, and i've made alot of them, iv been through alot of things 16 year olds shouldnt go through, and for me, iv just learned to go with it. mistakes can sometimes be fixed. i understand about consequences, if your saying that i dont. And of as right now, im probably not going to regret anything i get on my body when im 50 or 70 years old. life is a special thing, and if i want to get a tattoo of the moment, for the moment, i intend on doing so.
Also, i did take what you said to heart, because there probably is some things in what you said that i didnt understand, and someday i will.

I agree with jenniferR2279 When I was 13 I had some crazy ideas for my tattoos an when I was 16 then changed the reason its 18 is so the person can be sure I only had one design I wanted an thats the one i got all the others I backed out of I'm only 18 but I'm walked into places when i was 15 that have tattooed an pierced an they've asked if I've wanted inked an shit but I always said no because I was underage at the time an its not right the artist tattooed the 13 year old shes still just a kid hell if a 6yr old came up an said ''hey mister I want barbie on my arm'' would he do it? I doubt it so why the hell did he do a 13yr old the reason its 18 is to protect the kids an the artists look at the artist if he'd have said no he would still have a reputation worth summt...now he's looking at a year in jail doing prison tattoos if he's lucky....its winds me up summit rotten to see shit like this kids shouldnt be inked or pierced...they should wait till the of legal age at least that way they can be sure of what they want...well more sure then if they were 13-16..its not right an the artist gets everything coming to him..I dont think you should blame the parents I know a few 13-15yr olds shagging diff blokes every night and there parents dont know any diff they think there at the local youth club....I think the kid an the artist should be punished....times like these I wonder what happend to public floggings.....it makes all the respectable artists look like idiots an gives the greater population more reason to look down at body modders....bah it winds me up...hopefully the rest of the modding comunity wont be effected to badly by this. Rant over.

I knew I wanted a full body suit Japanese style tattoo since I was 5 years old. I had the basic design and layout and that concept remains the same to this day. It's not until recent years do I have the means to finance and start this huge project. If I had the money back then I'd have it done already. Age and maturity had nothing to do with my choice; pure economics.

My 6 yr old talks about tattoos he wants and even goes as far as to draw on his arms. I've told him that when he's of legal age, I will gladly help him in any way I can. I'll help him interview artists, hell, I'll even buy his ink for his birthday. If he's really serious, I want his first ink to be something that he's put time and thought into for years, and will be proud of for the rest of his life, not something that some randon scratcher gave him because he wasn't willing to delay his gratification until it was legal.

My oldest is 9 right now, and it curls my toes to think about him inking his tiny little still-growing body in 4 years.

Katie, I really hope you don't think I'm picking on you, babe....I don't know your situation,  I'm not the all knowing and all seeing. I've made my fair share of dumbass mistakes in my teens and early twenties, and I'm still making them in my late 20's! LOL
My mistakes, as dumb as they've been and as many have affected not only me, but others, make me the person I am. I wouldn't change any of them, knowing that they would totally alter my life as I know it, but a part of me wishes that I'd had someone tell me that I wasn't effin' superchick when I was 16....though I would be lying if I were to say that I would have believed it for a second. greytongue

And i deffentally agree with you when you say the mistakes make you who you are today, they really do. Odd, the whole point of the fact that the 13-year-old will regret what she got tattooed on her when she's older. Does that not often happen to people when they get inked at 18... or older? I've heard much about it. Don't forget that 18's still young. Peace, babes!

regardless of age, people regret things, and not just body modification related things. i hate how people always think that we will regret what we do because of what we did at a certain age. it really doesn't matter for everyone. some people know what they want their whole lives, but the majority of people do change a whole lot during their teen years. i myself am a pretty definite person, i don't usually change ideas of what i like or want, but if i got the tattoos i had thought of when i was younger, i would hate them now. i don't even care for tattoos anymore. sure, this may change again, but at this point in my life, i don't see it happening.
if my children however want to have tattoos, i will wait until they are legal age. not just because they are (usually) more mature at that age, but because i want them to see a good artist and i know good artists wouldn't take anyone younger. i sure as hell don't want them seeing some dumb scratcher just trying to make money, and hopefully i can teach them why i don't want them to have tattoos or certain modifications at a younger age that have been performed by another person. i'm aware i started young and i have work that a lot of people my age never really has unless they do it themselves or have a family involved in the industry, but i knew what i want when i got it and i don't regret any of it even today. i still want things i wanted years ago. i want to be involved in the lives of my kid(s) as much as possible, and i don't want them to have to hide things like i have, and i especially don't want them ever going to some hack or scratcher because they can't come to me about something modification related.
i think i figured out the ultimate reason why i modify: i just like touching myself.

How does a 13 year old afford a tattoo... most 13 year olds don't have jobs. Even with a fake ID a 13 year old doesn't look 18.. a 13 year old can't make a lifelong decision like that.. ugh.. wtf.
