From what I know....you need to contact your local health department and take some sort of health class.  You also need to go to a piercing school.

If I were you, I would go to your local body piercers and ask them on what do to.  Good luck!!

Courses can be a waste of money, By what I have seen you have to know some one or frequent one shop for all your mods and mention you want to peirce and get to know them that way, things may be different down below in the states, all you have to do is go to a few shops and ask

I don't think those schools are a complete waste of money, as they do teach you the "basics" as it were. However, no one or two week class, no matter how intensive is enough to make you a quality piercer. That takes time and most importantly experience. We might take someone who has attended a quality program as an apprentice, but don't expect it to get you a job at any higher levels. You should be able to learn the same thing from whoever is apprenticing you in without the outlay of all that money. Most times, an apprentice at my shop is started as in intern or counter help. Like the others said, if you are really interested you need to see some of your local artist.....what about the person who does your piercing?

I agree that piercing courses can be a waste of money because of things covered.  Fakir Musafar however has a school of modification that goes in depth.  However, I have the feeling that it would be very very hard to get in.  Anyone who is familiar with Musafar and his status in the industry will understand why.  He is probably the best of the best, the forefather of the westernization of body modification.  Good luck either way though, my suggestion is to get close to your local piercer, and move from there.

I agree with Lucid that Fakir really helped this industry in many ways. Although I agree with Montanta more, NO school can teach you how to pierce.  It is a hands on thing. The only thing a school can do is teach you anatomy, and basics behind piercing. The only TRUE way I feel to learn how to pierce appropriatly is through an apprenticeship. That means speaking with a qualified piercer about needing an apprentice. It is a long process so don't expect to jump in and start piercing. It takes time to watch the methods of the piercer, watch depth of tissue watch placement for various clients, watch how the needles and jewlery are held. Most importanly know what to touch and when to touch it, cross contamination is the most important thing, well right up there with performing a successful piercing. A piercing that is slightly off can be removed and redone, but possibly infecting your clients with foreign bacteria can possibly not be redone. So talk with your local artists that you feel are qualified to give you the apprenticeship. Dont accept something by some hack job just because its an oppertunity if he hasnt the skill himself all he/she will do is hand down misinformation to you. Like Montana said, schools are a watse of money, it isn't a bad thing to have some knowledge from them, we arent saying they don't help, they are just a waste of time and money, when the same knowledge and more can be gained from an apprenticeship itself. Good luck in your future endevours! - Jeremy XXX
