Heyeyeye,
First post from me? Yey? Long time lurker, but I thought I'd turn to you guys for some advice. I started the tie-off method yesterday because I've always been pretty good about healing orally. I had a bunch of surgeries to fix my teeth as a kid, and they all went smoothly. Hell, even my tongue piercing was -a dream-. I actually went back to get the post downsized within the week of getting it done because I have a smaller mouth and the long bar was actually causing more of the swelling than the act of piercing itself? She was really surprised how well it healed considering it had only been like... three days. With my body in mind, I kind of figured the tie-off method would go swimmingly? I know there are places around me that can do it, but it is a plastic surgeon and general anesthesia... the website lists tongue splitting around 800-1200 dollars. Yipes. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you knew of a body mod artist in the area? I live in West Chester, OH. As much as I'm okay with doing the tie-off method, part of me would rather have a one-and-done so that it will heal faster? Yes, I'm impatient, but considering I've wanted this for roughly twelve years? ehehehe. As for my progression, I'm two days into binding and about 4mm deep of a cut at the tip. Using floss, but debating switching to mono-filament.. the floss is almost impossible to cut, but it works rather well making its way through the flesh. |

Jared Anderson in Columbus would probably be good to talk to. I'm not positive he does splits, but Brian Decker could almost surely help you out, and he guests at Jared's place at least once maybe twice a year. (And, if neither of those are possible, I think he could probably point you in the right direction).

Quick google of Jared made me giggle a bit; I actually got the tongue piercing at Evolved.
Thank you! |

Whilst I'm of no use to help you out with artists names etc, I'm kinda interested as to why you chose the tie - off method? (I'm not judging I'm just honestly interested to know).

The jobs I'm working currently aren't paying me neaaaar enough for options that are local to me. For example, this. $1000 to $2500? Yipes. Since I've had quite a bit of oral surgery, I'm no stranger to a sore mouth?-especially prolonged discomfort. Ahah. Plus, the bit of challenge to it is interesting to me. It's like... stretching one's ears, but on hard-mode. As for an update, I had to stop for a day in order to meet S.O.'s mother. Dinner went well!-despite the lingering soreness. Put it back in afterwards, and there seemed to be no regrowth. Currently still only 3-4mm split and it's only visible on the underside, (taste buds hide the top). I also bought mono-filament fishing line for last night, but when I removed it this morning, the wire actually cut the inside of the piercing area as it came out and it huuuuurrrt. Currently using a plastic floss that's rather thin, but flat? That, and my aftercare is Crest Whitening Alcohol-free mouthwash, and it seems to be keeping it rather clean! (In addition to whitening my teeth quite a bit. I'm a heavy coffee drinker. Art School, man. Art School.) ALSO, the issue with cutting the floss has been solved. I was using my pair of clippers which is more force based rather than edge? I went out and bought a pair of cuticle scissors that have a safety tip so I can slide it under the string and snip without fear of poking tender flesh. :D Edited by B0NES - August/03/2014 at 5:43am |

Just changed out the bindings.
Is it normal to have a bit of blood?-just making sure I'm not tying them TOO tight. |

if there's no blood, you're doing it wrong, but this is the point where most people give up and decide it'd hurt less to the a scalpel to their own tongue

DEBATING. But considering the piercing is rather far forward, it's only about two-ish centimetres of a split so.... I CAN DO THIS. I WILL BE PATIENT... Maybe. The thing is, with the tie off method, I can conceal the fact that I am splitting my tongue more? Taking a scalpel to myself will be faster, yes. But. The first week of that healing isn't good for a work environment where I do have to talk. Bluh. Using the floss does give me a bit of a lisp, but I can work around it? |

I would be more concerned with the regrowth you're more likely to get with the tie-off method.. especially if your piercing is already somewhat forward.

/\ that, and also i've never seen someone take less than 2 weeks with the tie-up procedure, even when they're anchored near the tip, it just takes really long AND the week of healing afterwards still exists
don't fool yourself into thinking this is any less painful, any faster or any safer than when done with a scalpel, it's one thing only: cheaper, chances are you'll get stuck with a week and a half of pain, constantly tightening the binds, another week or so of healing 'till the swelling goes down and a month and a half of funny speaking and getting used to your "new" tongue, plus the added chance of infection from doing this at home, which is not something i'd be to worried about but even so, it's there did you read any experiences with this before trying? you can easily find quite a few that end up with the person giving up and cutting the remaining distance with a scalpel himself because it's less painful EDIT: i don't want to seem like i'm discouraging you from getting your tongue split, hell i'd get mine if i weren't afraid to let any brazilian modifer close to me with anything bladed, but there are better ways to do it and you're next to many great and very competent people that can do it Edited by SaintGabu - August/04/2014 at 1:03am |
