As long as the tattoo is fully healed and you don't abrade the skin until it is sore you almost certainly won't damage it through a strong exfoliant soap. If you are rubbing the skin raw and very sore then you may eventually damage the tattoo.

Well after a while your hands might develop calluses. That rough skin growth over to protect your epidermis. It shouldn't be enough to make your year or so old tats look 40, but they will look a bit weathered after a while.

haha your hands are 1 big callus in the motor trade , and it was for a tattoo i was planning ( a large section of black work on arm) and was just pondering over the effects of the scrub at the sink one day at work . it would be harmful to a fresh tattoo though . i gues i would just have to wear gloves / long sleeves until healed because i wouldn't be able to just book healing time of work ,
that would be outrageous

You could get the tattoo when you have booked time off work for some other reason (such as a vacation or other break). And if you don't ever normally take any time off at all (except maybe Christmas Day) then it would be pretty reasonable to take 2 weeks off to heal a sleeve tattoo. You could visit relatives and look around parks and museums in this time too.
