Recently, we found out that more women have tattoos than men or at least in the United States. While that's not something most people didn't know, it's not the only thing as obviously not knowing this means that most of us have no idea as to the history of tattoos and women. A good reference outside of the web is a book that was released in 1997 by Margot Mifflin and was entitled "Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women and Tattoo." It has been updated twice since, as we mentioned above, women are getting tattooed more and more everyday. The book also helped with the popularity of tattoos on women and according to a Harris Poll, around 23% of women have tattoos while only 19% of men are inked. What's even more staggering is how tattoos have increased in popularity in general. Going back to the book, it's definitely something worth checking out in order to get a grasp of just how far tattoos have come when it comes to women. The photos are amazing, it's well put together, and it has a lot of history to it that would prove valuable to any tattoo artist, fan, or a woman that may be skeptical about getting inked. Crazy enough, Mifflin's book was one of the first, if not the first, books to cover women and tattoos. While fashion is a popular thing, tattoos aren't widely considered to be fashion and can be a hard topic to cover. Margot Mifflin did a great job and deserves leagues of praise for writing this book.
It's good to see that the popularity of tattoos are increasing in both sexes and that people are getting more and more comfortable with their freedom of choice. It's truly progress!

It is a very noticeable difference in the sexes at my shop. We do 90% of our work on female clients.
