![]() Alright. On friday, I woke up and saw that one of the tops on my dermals on my hip was gone. I went to a piercer, they tried to screw another top into the base, but couldn't. Then, they used the tool to place the dermal in 6mm deep into my skin and finally found it, but it wouldnt stay screwed in, which made them think it was stripped. They used 4 extenders and about 30 minutes later i made sure everything was ok, but the extenders came right out. They said I could either go get it surgically removed, or I could leave it in there... Might not be the brightest question in the world, but... Would it hurt to leave it in? I'm just afraid of an internal infection. Please, heeeeeelp me haha I'm a little worried. Edited by skyxxxxxxxxxx - April/16/2012 at 4:31am |

First let me say I am no pro but it sounds to me like you need to find a new piercer. Your piercer should know how to remove them with the tool he used to insert them. I would not advise leaving them in without a top because your skin can grow over them. If its stripped the best thing you can do is go to a good piercer and get it taken out, let it heal and get it re done. Im sure someone else here will have better advice but thats just what I think. Good luck with it all.

Actually, If the threads are in fact stripped, It can be difficult if not impossible to get ahold of the dermal anchor base for removal. The tool used for inserting these grabs onto the anchor top (in most cases) and without the top, using the same tool used for insertion is not gonna work. The other option is using a threaded taper to screw into the base, but if it's stripped that wont work either.
At this point I would say that going to see another QUALIFIED piercer to try it would be your best bet. As far as what would happen if you just let it stay there, Id ask a doctor, or someone else might have a better answer than I do. I DO know someone from my area that has a dermal anchor base that she lost under her skin and as far as I know has had no issues, but that really means nothing. |

You need a new piercer. It's a bitch to get them out when they're stripped, but it's possible to do without a doctor. I wouldn't leave the anchor in, that's just bad practice. In my opinion if the piercer doesn't have the skill and knowledge to remove your anchor, they should have never been installing them in the first place.

You might be able to use a dye to rethread it but I'm not to sure about that. I don't know how that would work with out taking it out. I did know someone that left one in and it just grew over and was left with a small bump but never had any problems with it.
