so i got my tragus pierced less than 48 hours ago and I have been doing research about this piercing as far as cleaning/healing times. I have been cleaning with just sterile saline solution 3 times a day. Is this enough to keep my piercing clean and begin the healing process?

I am nervous because I have heard from many people that this piercing will easily get infected... how do I know if my piercing is healing correctly?? There is no redness so far and maybe a little swelling but not much. It is a little sore but not noticable unless I put pressure on it.

also, it was pierced with a ring.. should i rotate it while cleaning?

Sterile saline is the best product you can use for your piercing.  You don't need anything else.  I would recommend though, warming up the solution a bit and actually soaking the piercing if you're not doing so already.  Simply wiping it with the saline won't give you all the benefits of a warm soak.

If you keep up on your aftercare and follow basic common sense, your risk of infection is pretty low.  Don't touch your piercing if you don't have to and wash your hands before if you do, keep foreign objects (including phones) away from it, keep hair products away, keep your sheets clean, and stay on top of your aftercare.  If you do all these things, you are unlikely to get an infection.

Ear cartilage piercings can be temperamental and easily irritated, so you may experience some minor redness, swelling, and mild pain off and on throughout the healing process.  You will have a whitish or yellowish discharge that will dry as a crusty build-up around the piercing.  All this is normal.  If you have any bright, shiny redness, significant pain, dark or thick discharge, extreme swelling, or warmth around the piercing, have it assessed for possible infection.  Of course at any point, if you want to know things are going OK, just have your piercer take a look.

You should NOT rotate your jewelry while cleaning or any other time.  Doing so will drag debris and bacteria into your piercing, and will damage the fragile tissue inside, delaying your healing process.

Doing a soak 2 - 3 times a day for 3 - 5 minutes at a time is generally best. Tragus piercings can take around six months to a year to heal, and longer on some people. Just be patient with it and keep it clean, you will do great!

The "white stuff" could be dried lymph, or leftover salt if your doing soaks (soaks should be no more salty then your tears). The swelling (mild) is normal and the itchy feeling means it's healing. So yes, that sounds normal.

A whitish to yellowish secretion is normal during healing.
