OK, before the rumor mill goes berserk, I would like to publicly announce that we are considering moving Skin'd to New York. There are people on both sides of the isle on this, so I will briefly go over the pros/cons of such a move, as I see them.

Why we are considering moving the venue.

We want skin'd to grow to include include convention style classes, and we think we could get some 'bigger name' people to attend and lecture if it were in a bigger city

Way more to do, touristy style' in New York, as NY is a vacation destination by itself

Travel cost might be cheaper as NY is a major flight hub

Adam lives in NY and can help facilitate and act as liaison and help set things up

We think more members will show, as many times we have heard 'why is skin'd in bum fucked middle of nowhere Montana?'

Now the cons, as I see them

Expense, not travel, but hotel, food, drink, and getting around will certainly be higher in NY

Billings members were quick to provide crash space for out of town members, and can't guarantee this will happen in NY

Tourist anxiety would be higher in NY, compared to sleepy little Billings

Finding an appropriate venue for the event, and being able to afford it on our meager event sponsorships may prove difficult

This topic is for DISCUSSION of such a move. Remember that there are people on BOTH sides of this, so keep it civil. Adam and I DO want to hear your opinions on this. Nothing is set in stone, this is a feeler to see what kind of support, or anger this is gonna cause.

Yes, some people are already angry. Skin'd is Bodymod's main event, and we WILL listen to your arguments.

We want Skin'd to be as great as it can be. To that effect, some changes might need to be made. Adam and I both want whats best for the site and it's members, so here is your chance to voice your opinion. No poll to allow silent votes. If you have an opinion, here is the best place to voice it.

Remember that NO DEFINITE PLANS HAVE BEEN MADE.

So... keep skin'd small, cozy, and intimate, in Billings, b-b-que style
or try to take skin'd to the next level, convention style, in NY

Montana

I think I'd be too scared of NYC to go to Skin'd if it moved there.  Orlando makes me nervous... NYC would probably give me a full blown panic attack.

I wouldn't mind it being in a larger city but I agree that New York is too big of a city. However, I do think it would be cool if it was in a smaller city outside of a bigger city.
You might not share my views on politics, religion, or several other notable topics; if you ever attain my level of knowledge, you will, though.

I would love to see Skin'd in NYC. For myself  that would be perfect, then I could go by boat, there for no hotel needed. I have room for four B'moders in cabins, and could accommodate a few more if they don't mind sleeping on the floor, or couches. Sleep

i honestly dislike this idea.i like skind as a more laid back type thing. i think the event, with all it's random flaws, goes quite well with the laid back type atmosphere.

Also i'm really scared of going to new york. so if it does end up being there i wouldn't be able to go for a number of factors.

Well, I've not been and I plan to go... I much prefer the idea of it being in Montana. Though, I'm not a fan of large cities and have terrible travel anxiety!

I would absolutely support the idea of it being moved to New York!

Not gonna lie... in the past I've been like "wtf why can't it be in New York or something so I can actually go visit somewhere really awesome?"

So yes, please consider moving it to New York.  I would LOVE that.  Especially since I definitely want to go to New York eventually and planning that trip for when Skindependence comes would be really amazing.  Kill two birds with one stone.

Personally, if it moves to NYC, it would mean that i could not attend.

SkinD IS meant to be a bodymod event, not a public convention. I think that this was implied seeing that this year especially, it was reserved for Bmod members only.

I work my arse off just to be able to afford the flight. There is absolutely no way i'd be able to afford accomodation in NYC, let alone getting any mods of any kind.

SkinD is first and foremost a chance for us all to hang out. How on earth would that remain the same if it were moved to a huge-ass city like NYC with external people? How would that be 'For you, By You'?

There are a lot of us who struggle even to be able to pay their every day costs, and it takes a lot of saving up to be able to travel there.

Billings is pretty awesome a place, Alexa. If you've never been, you might not be aware of it. It is homely, yes, but there is plenty awesome things to see.

If SkinD were to, gods forbid, move to NYC, we'd be spread all over the place even more than we already were this year.  This year's SkinD would be a perfect example as to how being spread all over the place affected everyone. We did get the most out of it with things having to be reorganised on such short notice.

If affordability is the issue for SkinD, i am sure everyone would be willing to pitch in something to help cover the cost. Hell, we did it this year. Wade and Sean took staplegunning just as a fundraiser! A less painful and less amusing way would be to set up a paypal account. If we can afford supporter status, we can afford donating something for SkinD to stay put in Billings.

Adam lives in NYC true. Who else lives there? As opposed to Billings where shitloads of people already live there and i'm sure that if asked, they'd be willing to help set things up.

If it moves to NYC, it is practically impossible for me, and a fair bit of others to make it.

SkinD = Bmod meet-up = for us, by us. let's keep it this way.

/rant over for now.

and another thing. To me, flying to NYC or flying to Billings is still crossing the pond. Affordability is not just my issue........... Both cost AND distance is also an issue for the ones lucky enough to live on the same continent. Be it Canada or other states.

/rant over for now methinks...

I kinda like the idea of how it is now, cozy and like a second family. I'd be far more inclined to go if it were kept similar to how it is than if it were bigged up so to speak. I'm planning on going 2011 but it's looking shakey atm. I would be sad if I missed out on this style before it went up to being a huge thing if im honest.

I bet you Googled that!
