My more specific question would be what could you bring as a snack or food item to keep your blood sugar up and keep your body fueled and ready to keep going during a session?

Fruit roll up.
Works every time.

Try to eat a decent meal ahead of time (derr)
and drink plenty of water.
If you're feeling faint and the tattoo artist doesn't give you a little break,
find a new artist.

I never felt faint I just started to get hungry again and It started to hurt more I had a few jolly ranchers during the tattoo to keep me from twitching and screwing him up. It would be nice if I brought some pita bread and hummus mmm hummus :D

I always take the same things:
- 2 cans of diet cola (one for my tattooist)
- 2 cups of tea with milk (one for my tattooist)
- 1 humous and chili sauce sandwich (for me)
- 1 sausage and egg sandwich (for my tattooist)
We have a sandwich before we start and a can of coke when the outline is done but before shading.

Granola bars, trail mix, whole grain muffins, anything with complex carbs is a good choice.  Candy bars and sodas are good for an instant pick-up, but if you're working on a lengthy piece, you could crash later and end up worse off than you were originally.  Complex carbs help sustain you for longer periods of time.
