You were asking about waist modification for your girlfriend which is a far more extreme mod in terms of effects on one's body than men cutting up their dicks.

Funny, but you are missing the brilliance of branding and scarification. Why?... If aesthetics isn't part of the answer then it shouldn't be posted (but that doesn't mean it is 'wrong'). |

wow, that's pretty fucking insulting. not only are you putting down other's mods, but you're turning them into jokes? when you were born, was there a part that lived? |

i don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging the way in which some mods shock us. part of the point may be to shake up the boundaries of what we're comfortable with. but i agree with kcir that we should be sensitive to peoples' mods, not treat them as jokes, and be sure to give them the respect we'd expect regarding our tastes and the way our tastes have shaped (or conserved) our bodies.

i agree. for a community that is supposed to be so accepting, open minded and willing to learn and share our differences it still baffles me from time to time how rude and ignorant some few can really be. that comment, and your outlook on things truly sicken me, QOTSA90.
i have nothing wrong with the fact that some people are shocked with some things in life, be it modification or otherwise. obviously there will always be something that shocks someone, even if it doesn't shock someone else. but in a community like this you don't go around being proud that you use the hardcore section of this website as some sort of free peep show to make your ignorant friends gag a little. if you do something so childish, just keep it to yourself. don't brag about it in the wrong places. eatenp, I agree with you on this one. sharing mod experiences, etc, isn't meant as a peepshow. the point i wanted to make beyond our agreement is that it's normal for some to be shocked. i hoped that this would help bring ppl who are ignorant of mod culture into the light, rather than alienating them with chastisement.
it's a touchy issue. how do you interact with people who are obviously curious about mods, but are still shocked and even upset by them? i suppose the key issue here is whether someone who is ingorant of mod culture is willing to accept w/o passing judgement. or if they just come in here to gawk and criticize. |

For two reasons.
1. Because they want to. 2. Because they can. End of story. |

Hmm, this has been rather interesting. So many people that don't have these proceedures, piping up in defense of those that do, like it is your job to speak for them.
If you read the original post, I clearly stated that I don't judge anyone that has these mods, I just has a desire to understand. Therefore, I see many of the people who may have taken offense to the fact that I even asked, as more closed minded than they implied me to be.
Many of you offered the most cliche answers, as if since I had to ask I don't deserve to understand. That's pretty lame on your part! I may have said that my initial reaction was one of shock and questions but that is exactly WHY I asked. I don't think anyone who has these modifications would take offense with someone being honest and taking a genuine interest in something that only they can explain.
I've enjoyed reading all of your responses and I am glad to see that each of you are so spirited. Although, I am still waiting for an answer that is actually worth the time it takes to write it.
