I got my tongue pierced about an hour ago and I read the first couple of days are the worst, so how can i cope? Right now my tongue is really sore, which makes sense, and also my tongue is pretty swollen!
What can i do to ease the pain and decrease swelling as well as quicken healing time? |

ibuprofen. cold drinks. very soft foods (I decided to believe that pasta was a soft food today--- wrong). try not to play with it at all. and I've found that after rinsing my mouth with listerine for about 30 seconds, my tongue goes numb. totally awesome :) [ps, I just got my tongue pierced last night]

yup, agree with the above but make sure you use the alcohol free mouth wash or just use a saline mouth wash (not that tastey but the best thing for your mouth).
Also don't try to eat spagetti hoops while you still have the big bar in or peas, hoops were funny but painfull catching over the bar but when I tried peas I kept biting the top ball. I've had my tounge done for 12 1/2 years now and wouldn't be without it. |

Ice creammmmm was my favorite for the first week. Although after the first day I could eat whatever I wanted, i still took it easy. Ice cream and slurpees, and anything cold was wonderful.

ice water feels amazing. and crushed ice...freezie pops but make sure you rinse after stuff like freezie pops. pudding is good food. I also used to crush my ramen noodles and decrease the sodium in em...good food. and soup is good.
it will feel better soon, don't worry. good luck |

ibuprofen, motrin, etc.. will help with the pain and the swelling... <ost of the other pain relievers are also blood thinners.. Alos, if you area smoker, quit, or at least cyt back some... Soft food yes!! Thick food, NO!! Your tongue needs to pull the food into the back of your mouth to swallow,,, LOL!,,, So place food further back in the mouth, or enjoy cold drinks, and ice creams... the worst will be over soon, I PROMISE!!!! |

dont go overboard on the mouthwash, no more than 2-3 times a day, otherwise your tongue will get a whitish film on it thats hard to scrub off (which goes away after time but is not very pleasany.
I'd say just ice, cold water, and popsicles (but be careful) |
