I was looking at the post about ear lobe stretching and someone said that if you were planning on stretching your lobes to pierce them at a larger gauge to save time, especially if you're planning on stretching them very large. My question to you is, does that apply to labret piercings too? Could I pierce my labret at say, a 6g? I'm planning on going to 00g.

You could get a 6ga labret piercing.. done with a needle or a scalpel.. Do realize that that makes it much more permanent than a 14ga.
Punching is not generally done on "soft" tissue, because scalpelling works better.
I had my labret scalpelled from nothing to 2ga. I took it out, it closed completely.

you probably could. but 00g really isn't that big. so my advice is just pierce at a normal size and stretch up normally. it may be faster piercing with a bigger gauge but it may mean that you are less likely to down gauge if you don't want it anymore.

Scalpelling is the solution if you don't want to wait a lot of time. You have too to remember that that is a permanent mod, it depends by your body but not everyone's large gauge labret will close even if they don't wear jewelry for a lot of time.
Back in topic, you can have it scalpelled directly at 00g (9mm) if you want without having to wait for it to be healed and then start stretching. Remember too that people with scalpelled lobes/labrets usually says that they tend to stretch a lot (1 or 2 sizes bigger) in a small period of time. If you don't want to go beyond 00g(9mm) then you should scalpel it at a 'small' size like  6g(4mm) or 4g(5mm) in my opinion.

Because gum erosion is always an issue with labrets I always reccommend to pierce it and then stretch to see how your gums deal with it. Maybe pierce it at a 10ga. Closer to the goal but small enough that it will close up if you notice problems.

It's stretching, not gauging.
Everyone's different, so no one can really say how painful it is. Stretching shouldn't really hurt at all though.
If you're dedicated to a mod, pain shouldn't be an object.
