*** UPDATE ***
For the next 3 people that go through all the steps,

I will give you
$5 cash! No shit =)

I only need 3 more people for a color iPod and I really want it, so I'm willing to entice you now =)
I also noticed that a lot require you to pay $1 now, so I figure I'll help you by paying you that and 4 more =)
Once I see that you have completed the offer I'll contact you via the email address you signed up for and send you the cash by check or PayPal.
Thanks!!

Okay, i bet you've all seen the "Free iPod" ads everywhere and haven't clicked on em (which makes sense). Anywho, I've figured out a way to scam the scammers and actually get a free iPod from them for literally $0 =)

Here's the step by step process on how:

1. Go to This Link and sign up for a free accnt. You have to give them a real email and real address (cuz that's where the ipod's goin).

2. After you sign up, you be asked 5 (i think) yes/no questions on if you want stuff. Just click "No" on all of em.

3. Now they'll tell you that you need to buy something, or register for a credit card to get your ipod. Here's where we begin out scam =). Select the eFax option.

4. Now sign up for a free month of eFax. Yes you'll have to give them a CC #, but don't worry, you won't get charged anything...keep reading.

5. After you've created your eFax account, wait about 3-4 days or so. This is to give eFax time to contact the free ipod site to tell them you've signed up. You can keep checking by logging into the free ipod sight and click on "Check Status". Once it says "Congratulations..." the transfer has been met. Proceed to the next step.

6. Click on This Link. This should take you to where you can cancel your account. If the link's not working, go to eFax.com, click on Help, and search "cancel". You'll see it. This will keep up under the 30 day mark, so you never get charged =).

7. Now you've completed the purchasing part without paying one dime (oh yeah). Refer this process to some friends of yours and sit back and wait for your new absolutely free ipod to show up in the mail =)

ps. I have the new 20gb 4G ipod and it's the shit! I never go anywhere without it. =)

I'm just curious... did you do this to get your ipod?  I've seen deals like this before.. and sometimes they wait for you to actually have to make the first payment on the service you signed up for...

although... 23.99 isn't exactly a lot of money considering you're getting an ipod... but the trial is 50 days.... so you might technically have to wait for 50 days, pay the first month of AOL, and then they'd send it out.  One site with a "free" offer like this said you'd have to wait up to 8 weeks for the sponsor to contact them to confirm you signed up/paid.  I didn't see any disclaimers yet... but I didn't actually sign up for the AOL thing yet either.  Unsure if the disclaimer pops up after you finish or something...

I'm sitting here staring at the AOL sign up screen.  it sort of makes me feel sick.  I just figured i'd ask and see if you or anyone else really did this and got away with it.... cause I might actually be willing to pay the first AOL month if I'm definitely getting my Ipod, but all the same, AOL is evil and I hate to even think about giving them any of my hard earned money if i really can cancel within the trial and still get away with it

I signed up and then it only took about 3 days for them to notify the site that i've paid. After that, I called up and cancelled my accnt. never charged a cent =).

well, why not find a friend in the US that you trust, and then have them sign up for you (obviously you'd have to trust them a lot...), and then also find other friends in the US to be your referrals.... i'm sure you could pull it off.. then just pay to have it shipped over to your neck of the woods.

I am giving this a shot as well... a lot of my friends were irratated and thought i was trying to get them involved in something fucked up, but when i explained how easy this whole thing was, and showed them the article on wired.com that showed why it's pretty much legit.... they were enthused and hopefully we all end up with ipods....

thanks for the tip Adam.  I hadn't even seen the ads.... and I'm happily awaiting all the "offers" to clear so the ipod can find it's happy home with me.

basically, the article doesn't imply that you SHOULD cancel out on an offer, but mentions in passing that people use this tactic and it doesn't make a huge difference in the scheme of things.  It also further verifies that the offer is pretty much legit, and explains more of the fancyness of the whole story

the wired article is here: http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html?tw=wn_sto ry_page_prev2

Personally, I think this is a great opportunity, as I am a starving artist.  I can't afford one otherwise.  In fact, I recently got a better job, and thanks to the way this friggin world works, all the money I'm making in excess of my prior salary is now going directly to pay for my health insurance.  Joy.

Oh well, a few more referrals and at least I'll have an Ipod.  I guess that's enough to make me slighty less angsty!
