i get some weird looks at the mall with my septum...
a doctor of mine was saying how "disgusting" it is when people play with their tongue piercings, which i found terribly funny...little does she know i have two, annnd
my own mother insinuated that i'm a freak.

I'd say hypertrophic scarring.

If you're like me- I have a HORRIBLE issue with my healing piercings and that. A good 3/4's of my piercings have gotten it during the healing process. Especially in my cartilage(It almost seems unavoidible for me with cartilage). My nostrils have both had times during the healing where they were absolutely raunchy looking.

But if you do your sea salt soaks, and some camomile compresses, and just baby the piercing, it does go away.

However, are you sure you don't have any metal allergy or anything like that?

I personally have no problems with 316l for the most part (I used to only get pierced with it), it's an EU regulation thing. I currently am having some issues with SS that claims to be 316l but the price I paid for it I really don't think it is so I'll be buying ti to replace it when I get paid next. I know the nickel content and release in proper 316l is very very low but Brussells has said it's too high.

The EU has been know to put lots of strange rules in place. For years odd shaped fruit and veg were banned from sale.

just to clear this up i am a piercer and i use 316L surgical steelfor most of my piercings and its rare that someone has a reaction toit(not saying that no one does but its rare)
and second go see a piercer dont try to change it yourself, the piercerwill know whats going on and know what length to put in. you dont wantto try and change it yourself this early if your already havingproblems with it.
like Jesykka was saying... also you can introduce bacteria trying to change it yourself witch can lead to infection.

*You have to be careful with buying jewellery because of the material.

*You need someone who knows what they're looking at to assess what length the bar needs to be to accommodate the swelling.

*You need someone to assess if the swelling is an abnormal amount, or if it's just that the bar is too short. Because if it's swlling far more than it should, you need to figure out why and correct it.

*It wont be easy changing the bar in a new, swollen lip piercing, and if you mess around trying to get it through for too long, it's going to try and close up on you and you'll lose it.

Hey you don't even need to go back to that particular piercer if there's a problem there. Most places will help you out with issues like this, even if it was done elsewhere.
